Roads Less Eaten: A Gourmet Expedition for Durian Lovers

Throwback to our epic road trip in search of the coveted durian fruit. While most people settle for the local vendors, we decided to take the road less traveled, embarking on a thrilling adventure to Yes Durian Orchard in Raub, Pahang.

The journey to reach our destination spanned approximately 2 hours, cruising along the scenic Karak Highway. Fortunately, the traffic was light, granting us a smooth passage to a quaint village, where our mission to find the orchard began. However, locating the entrance proved to be a challenge, as the orchard was tucked away from the main road.

Undeterred, we embarked on an exploration, determined to unveil the hidden entrance. After some perseverance, we stumbled upon a narrow path that led us through an unpaved road, winding its way to the heart of the orchard. The contrast between this modern, tourist-ready orchard and the traditional ones was striking, with a magnificent building nestled against a gentle hill.

To our delight, our pre-ordered durians awaited us upon arrival. The orchard strictly catered to those with reservations, ensuring a personalized experience. Alongside the succulent durians, we indulged in the refreshing taste of fresh coconuts, the perfect complement to the rich, creamy fruit. After all, durians are known to be heaty, and the coconuts helped to balance our bodies.

As we savored our durians, relishing every mouthful, a group of tourists stumbled upon the orchard. Unaware that pre-booking was required, their hopes for a durian feast were dashed. However, luck was on their side, for we generously decided to share a portion of our abundant supply. We had ordered more than we could handle, caught up in our enthusiasm for the journey and the fruit.

After two blissful hours of indulgence and relaxation, the time came for us to bid farewell to the orchard and return to the bustling city. This extraordinary durian road trip left such an indelible mark on us that we ceased our quest for durians for nearly half a year.
