Throwback to my visit to Whole Foods Express, a local grocery store located near where I'm staying. Despite being smaller in size, it had everything I needed and more for my daily needs. The stocks are constantly updated and it's also convenient for me to just walk over.

After years of grocery shopping at many places, it solidified my preference for visiting local grocers over larger chain stores. As consumers, we are often spoiled with endless choices, making it easy to overspend. However, it's important to remember that not all options are necessary.

During my visit, there were Chinese New Year promotions going on in the store. All display racks were fully stocked and every inch of the store was used to place promotion displays. I found some new selections of alcohol displayed in the fridge and even saw traditional "nian" cakes (年糕) for sale. Approaching @joannewong's favourite aisle, the snack section, I was able to find one of my favorite snacks from my visit to Bangkok last November.

Another benefit of shopping at local stores is that all the staff recognize you and treat you with more warmth compared to larger chain stores. Conversations are easily struck at every corner and they will let you know if any special promotions are ongoing.

Finally, we got what we needed for the upcoming week and proceeded to pay. Do any of you have the same thoughts as me about shopping at local vs larger chain stores?
