A Secret Visit to Tip of Borneo

I’m back! I was absent from HIVE for a few weeks due to celebrating the Chinese New Year over the past 15 days. Last week, I went on an impromptu road trip from Kota Kinabalu to Kudat, and the weather was nice with minimal traffic on the road.
Our destination was the Tip of Borneo, which is about 185 km away and takes about 3 hours by car. The road to the Tip of Borneo is scenic, passing through charming villages, paddy fields, and lush rainforests. Some parts of the road are well-maintained, but others are filled with potholes due to the monsoon rainy season.
Upon reaching the junction to the Tip of Borneo, we encountered a large road crack and had to find a detour. We decided to stop in Kudat town for a quick lunch before continuing on to our destination.
However, when we arrived at the Tip of Borneo, we were surprised to find that it was temporarily closed for renovation. We talked with the local people and learned that we could get in for a “payment.” The best part was that we were the only tourists there, and we could enjoy the scenery without any disturbance. After 45 minutes of exploring, we also went to the nearby local beach for a walk.
