Review of Bún Thập Cẩm Restaurant in Sapa
Bún Thập Cẩm Restaurant in Sapa is not just a culinary destination; it's an excellent exploration of the unique flavors of Vietnamese cuisine. One of the standout dishes here is the bún cá, a harmonious blend of local and seafood flavors.
The restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring bún gà (chicken vermicelli), bún bò (beef vermicelli), bún cá (fish vermicelli), bún thịt nướng (grilled meat vermicelli), and especially bún thập cẩm (mixed vermicelli). A complete bowl of bún thập cẩm, as shown in the picture I posted, costs around 50,000 VND, a reasonable price considering Sapa's status as a tourist city where everything tends to be pricier than in other locations.
I opted to try the bún cá, and from the first glance, the bowl was filled with fried tofu, Colocasia gigantea, bone-filtered fried fish, crispy dried onions, fish cake, fresh herbs, and dried shallots. The standout feature of this place is the broth, rich and sweet, standing out from many bún cá places in Hanoi. They use a combination of pork bone broth and fish stock, resulting in a flavorful and aromatic broth that is irresistible.
Despite its unassuming appearance, the restaurant is always bustling with customers, a testament to the allure of its distinctive flavors. When eating, it's recommended to enjoy the dish while the bowl is still hot to fully appreciate the flavors. Pairing the bún cá with fresh greens like perilla leaves, bean sprouts, and banana flowers enhances the overall aromatic and freshness of the dish.
A standard bowl of bún cá here must showcase an appealing color palette with the golden hue of fried fish and fish cake, the green of water spinach, the red of chili sauce, and the pristine white of vermicelli submerged in the broth. This dish is truly suitable for savoring on chilly days in Sapa.
