My Day Trip to Saqqara Necropolis

Hey everyone, first of all I would like to welcome everyone to my new post and hope you have a day so far which is full of numerous amazing experiences! In my new post I would like to share something about my journey to Sakarra with you which was one of the best experiences for me during my time in Egypt and I am happy if you like my contribution.

Saqqara is probably one of the best sights near Cairo and to get there visitors have to drive about 40 minutes by car and I decided to start early in the morning and took an Uber. I have already mentioned in other posts that I was very satisfied with the service of Uber in Egypt and even if the standard alternative is an option, I would in any case pay the small surcharge for Uber Comfort because otherwise it may be that passengers have to do without important comfort or even the belt as it has already happened to me. Saqqara is a whole complex on which various historical buildings can be found and at the beginning I would like to mention that this terrain is larger, which is why some recommend renting a driver for the whole day to be able to easily and quickly move back and forth between the sights, but I did not do so. This means for me that I partly had to walk for a few minutes which can be strenuous in the middle of the desert and it was about 5 kilometers or a distance of 30-60 minutes but I was there during the even cooler time and it was no problem for me and I also think that many others have no problem with it, but if visitors are here during the particularly hot days it may be worthwhile to pay the extra money or if others do not like to walk so much.

What I would also absolutely recommend is to pack enough to drink because there are some sellers here in the desert, but only in a few places and I was already very thirsty in some places which is why I would have liked to have packed more and also the sun protection should be standard. Depending on how much time someone should spend there, there are different options and I have decided to visit everything right away, which is why I bought the combined ticket and this was also worthwhile in every respect and should also be well planned because it can be a little further back to the ticket sale. Before I say more about the terrain, I would like to mention that Saqqara is just outside and Uber does not work so well here and on the way back I had to wait almost an hour until I got a driver and here alternatively a taxi can also be taken which is much more expensive.

Enough with all the recommendations which hopefully can be helpful and back to the area which was originally intended as a site for excavations and it's also very closely linked to the city of Memphis. One of the most famous buildings that can be found here is the Djoser pyramid which is one of the oldest pyramids of the country which was built by the architect Imhotep and this was also the first thing I looked at during my visit. I continued with the entire tombs which are also known under the name Mastaba and here there were a total of four different ones to explore. The path led me further to other pyramids as well as to the Serapeum which is an underground facility that stretches for kilometers through the desert and I was really amazed to see something like that and for me this was also the largest underground facility I have seen so far. There were even more things to explore on the site such as graves of animals or smaller pyramids nearby and on the way back I also went to the museum of Imhotep which started with a small film which told some interesting facts in 10 minutes and the museum then took another 20 minutes to visit. At the end of this long day, I ate something right next door in the restaurant before I had an Uber picked up again and as mentioned the waiting time is longer, which is not the end of the world and to shorten the waiting time it was worth choosing Uber priority.

It's the first time I hear about saqqara, drink must be also super expensive there!

Overall again really a lot of things to see, Egypt is such so full of things, imhotep museum is an other one I wasn't aware of... It's like a bag full of history!

The price for the terrain starts from about 10 dollars and the combined ticket twice as much, but for what is offered a really fair price I have to say. Transport and food are added again, but that is fair either. All together maybe 40-50 dollars for but really everything with food, transport and admission to so many different cultural places. Saqqara should not be missed by anyone in Egypt!

The history of each city is different and special, and what I am saying here is that children should be told about it so that in the future, all future generations can know about it.

Yes, that is really very important not only to promote culture but also to pass it on! I’m always happy to see that you think about so many important things.

What a cool place, another that I have always wanted to visit! There is just so much history to see there, interesting to hear about Uber service on the way back though. I guess in countries like Egypt things don't always work quite as well in remote areas! Thanks for sharing all of the cool pictures you took, what a cool experience!

That’s true with Uber, there are also corners where it can be completely forgotten. I hope you will be able to see it yourself soon, it is an absolute must :)
