A few weeks ago I was in Bavaria and visited the well-known Kaltenberg knights tournament and it was the first time for me to have visited a festivity of this kind and was surprised how large it was. It's considered one of the most famous festivals which has focussed on the Middle Ages in the world and attracts thousands of visitors year after year who come from all over the world and also the artists come partly from far away. The festival takes place once a year during the summer season and when it comes to the schedule, it takes place on three weekends in a row and the program also varies depending on the day like a program in the evening or day. I decided to visit the tournament in the evening and the admission was already at 5 pm and overall it went until late at night and it was actually something offered all the time and I think the diversity is one of the things why it's so unique.

Everything was very authentic and the actors have definitely managed to give a mediaeval flair and everywhere jugglers, knights or other people walk around who remind you of scenes from this time and with over 150 stands you can also learn a lot about old professions such as mills, shoemakers, blacksmithing or more. A focus of some stands is to bring out the tradition of craftsmanship and accordingly there are also opportunities to become active themselves and also for the younger ones, there was a lot to offer. After the entrance I first explored the stands for some time and then a parade took place at which numerous showmen were present and then there was the main tournament which was initiated by a pre-program.

After the tournament, the stands offered a lot and various attractions like live music was offered all over the site and it can be said that the market really came to life at night. Also for food there was a large selection and everything was typical in flair of the Middle Ages and depending on which ticket is bought the prices can vary, but I think that these are fair for what is offered but the ticket does not contain food or drinks and it can be spent a lot more when the stands are visited. Now I would like to say something about the games in general that have existed for decades now and were created by the Prince of Bavaria Luitpold. At first it was still a small festival and over time the popularity grew more and more and if at the beginning there were hundreds of visitors there are nowadays estimates over 100000 and for me it was the first time to have experienced an experience like this and I can only recommend it to everyone who should be nearby to come over here to make this experience.

Visiting historical places has always increased our knowledge, and this place also looks much more special and interesting because of the different colors.

You should also go there, yes that’s what the tournament is about, a big fight was staged in which the Bavarian troops had to compete :)
