Good morning, Hive-ians! 😊
Celebrated my birthday this week by making myself a chocolate cake with German butter cream icing. It was my first time making the icing and trying to be a bit fancy with it when it came to piping, not as pretty as some, but its the “prettiest” I’ve ever done. LOL! 😊
My handsome husband made pizza, one of my favourite meals, for my birthday supper. 😊

I’m grateful the backhoe was in a good mood this week because my handsome husband had to use her to move quite a bit of snow around our property and off of our driveway this week, winter is here in full force now. 😊
The freezing rain was a pain for most people, but it gave our neighbours daughter an extra long weekend as school was cancelled on Friday due to hazardous road and weather conditions. 😊
The pigeons didn’t let the freezing rain stop them from coming by for a snack while ducking the winds😊
The freezing rain on the windows got so thick we couldn’t see out them at all, its like Mother Natures’ version of frosted privacy windows. 😊
My handsome husband opened the back door to go do chores after the last snowstorm ended and this is what we saw, ugh. Thankfully, it was light and fluffy, easy to shovel snow and he only had to shovel a path over to the backhoe to start her up and clear the rest of the way over to the barn. 😊
The sunshine returned on Friday, didn’t bring any warmth with it, but it came back, and we were so happy to see it after all the freezing rain and snow. 😊
This is the second pizza we made; this one was to share with our neighbours. 😊

We found this slug and one of its friends in with our spinach and onions tray inside one of our mini greenhouses yesterday. 😊
We took them both out and placed them on the lid of a garbage can to get a good look at them and while I went to get my camera they started exploring. The lighter one, in the first picture, stayed on top of the garbage can lid and checked it all out, while they’re companion decided to go exploring. Here’s the darker one sliding/climbing down the side of the garbage can, heading to the floor. 😊

I had a busy birthday...cleaned the house and made two pizza, baked a cake and made the icing from scratch and had the neighbours over to enjoy supper with us, but it was a pretty good birthday, so I'm not going to complain, at least this year we had power. 😊
Thank you very much, the icing was a bit too thick, but it was great tasting and went really nicely with the chocolate cake I made. What kind of cake are you making for yours? How many of the different tips came with your piping bag and which end do you think you'll use for your cake? I'm probably not going to be online on Saturday as that's usually my day of reflection and rest, so I'm going to wish you a fantastic birthday, in advance...HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 😊

I am going to make a white cake with HOPEFULLY lemon custard filling between the layers....

That sounds tasty. Are you making your own lemon custard filling? If so, would you be so kind as to share the recipe please? I've been looking for a nice custard for inside lemon muffins but haven't found one that isn't mostly sugar. I suppose I could use a meringue instead but the ones I've found are full of sugar as well. 😊
Cool, looking forward to seeing your piping kit. I just use an old Pampered Chef cookie press as my piping kit, or at least, that is what I used last time and it worked pretty good. Maybe some day I'll invest in a real piping kit too. 😊
Doing our best to keep warm, in the house its easy with the wood stove, but step outside and its a whole other story, brrr, -16 Celsius has been our average temperature this past week. Thankfully, today we're only down to -9 Celsius, woohoo. LOL! 😊

Thank you very much. Some of my cooking doesn't turn out to look as pretty as on cooking shows, but they all usually taste pretty good, to me; my handsome husband always adds more salt and pepper, LOL! 😊
That is so true, so why be miserable when we can choose to be positive. I'll say amen to that, AMEN! 😊
That is what matters.. looks can be deceiving for food. You can dress it up to look fancy, in the end if it doesn't taste good no point in eating it lol. When I attempt to make food look awesome, it turns to crap sometimes lol. I go with tasty every time. 😀
That's is a good point, I'd rather tasty over pretty food, every time. 😊

That does look quite similar and if your door had been on the same side as mine I might have thought they were the same, neat how we get the same type of weather some days and others are totally different.
Its been cold and snowy here for the past few days/weeks, so I'm really missing the milder temperatures that we started with, wishing they'd come back. Yes, they will be back in about 2.5-3.5 months, but that's a long time away, though with the rate the days are flying by it will be here before we know it. 😊
The slugs are gone, when we see them we evacuate them from our plants right away, though they're all tall enough that the slugs shouldn't be a problem, but why chance it, in my opinion. 😊
Awe, thanks, so did we, it was gone within a few days and I'm going to have to make another to snack on this week, which means I'll get more practice with the icing and have another chance to get it just right. Yay! 😊
That cake will be made tomorrow or the next day, not sure which yet, depends on how sore I am after today. Today is brew (beer) bottling day and I've also got a bunch of bell peppers and onions to chop up and freeze for use over the next month and that will most likely take all my energy. So, I've got to pace myself and will probably need a few sitting breaks between tasks, but I'll get them done by tonight for sure. 😊

That's so funny, this posted twice. I've had that happen to me a few times over the years that I've been blogging, too. I wonder if it happens a lot, just to different people, so that it's not as noticeable...
