destination urbino, marche region italy
what an amazing song... i was 10 years old when this one charted, and i still know every single lyric.
so being from a part of africa which does not experience much snow, and being in europe for our first winter we wanted to play in snow. alas, alack... ancona by the sea does not get snow... so we hopped on a train and then a bus in search of snow..
The historic town of Urbino is located in the Marche region of central Italy and is renowned for its Renaissance architecture and rich cultural history. The town's long and complex history dates to the time of the Etruscans. With a prosperous court and a thriving artistic society, Urbino developed into a significant center of culture and learning during the Middle Ages. A number of outstanding artists and thinkers made Urbino one of Italy's most significant cultural hubs during the Renaissance.

the light was absolutely stunning... these are natural colors as taken in the late afternoon daylight... a photographers dream.
In the 15th century, Urbino flourished under Federico da Montefeltro's leadership, drawing artists and thinkers from all across Italy. For Urbino, the Renaissance was a time of enormous prosperity with the town being home to a number of great artists, including Raffaello Sanzio and Perugino, as well as important intellectuals such as Giovanni Santi and Luciano Laurana. Despite being sacked by the troops of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V in the 16th century, Urbino still maintained it's status as an important cultural center, with a number of great artists and intellectuals calling it home throughout the centuries that followed.
