Folk Music Moments at the Kaunas Spring Fair (Lithuania)

I've photographed the Kaunas Spring Fair (Lithuania) this weekend - check out the photos here!

During the Fair, there was also a small stage set up for live music. I spent some time photographing a few of the folk bands and folk ensembles who performed throughout the day. It added such a nice mood to the fair—these sounds really bring you back to older times.

The music felt very nostalgic. Mostly older people were gathered in front of the stage, clapping along, sometimes singing quietly or even dancing a little. It was sweet to see them truly enjoying the songs they probably grew up with. There was something really warm and comforting about the whole scene.

I didn’t photograph all of the performers, but I managed to catch a few. The performers wore folk inspired clothes, and even though some of them were older, they played with such joy and energy.

One of the most touching moments for me was at the very end of the concert, when a group of women over 70 years old took the stage. They were part of the final performance, and they had prepared a simple dance routine. Everyone in the audience smiled and cheered—it was such a wholesome and positive ending to the day.

It made me think about how traditions like this are still alive thanks to people like them. There’s something beautiful about seeing these cultural expressions passed down and still enjoyed, even if mostly by the older generations.
