Mini Cycles in a Single Leaf
There are days when I feel like I’m going through mini cycles, quiet changes that happen in the background, almost unnoticed. That thought came back to me during my walk when I saw these leaves in different stages of life. Some still looked strong and full, while others were already drying, breaking apart, and slowly surrendering to time.
I used to pass by plants without thinking much about what they were doing. I only noticed the “pretty” parts, the lush greens, the clean shapes, the perfect surfaces. But photography has this way of slowing me down. When I frame a subject, I’m forced to actually see it. And once you start seeing, you realize how much is happening in such a small space.
In my photos, the worn-out textures became the main story. The holes, the fading tones, the rough edges, these are signs that the leaf has lived through something. It reminded me that growth isn’t always about looking fresh. Sometimes growth is about changing form, letting go, and making room for whatever comes next.
I also chose to present these images in black and white because it makes the details feel louder. Without color, the contrast speaks more clearly, the veins, the shadows, the fragile parts that are close to disappearing.
Nature really is amazing. It keeps moving, even when we’re not paying attention. And maybe that’s the comfort in it: every cycle has its season.
