Sekhmet in Egyptian Mythology
Hey dear community, first of all I would like to welcome you all on my new contribution and hope you had a day full of interesting experiences! In this article I would like to go into Egyptian mythology and hope you are able to expand your knowledge a little.
Recently I had the opportunity to photograph this authentic figure of the Egyptian goddess Sekhmet, which was probably made of granite and express this powerful goddess well. Sekhmet is also the daughter of the sun god ra and over time her meaning changed more and more and in her early years, she was also revered as a protective deity who has been associated with fertility or motherhood and later she became a goddess of war who, in addition to destruction, brought plagues over humanity and sometimes she was also revered as a protective goddess. In addition to spreading epidemics, sekhmet was also able to heal them again and she was very feared because she could determine about life or death and a huge cult was created to worship her and especially sick people often turned to her and hoped that she would heal them and to appease her anger, people often worn amulets or other jewelry and made sacrifices in her honor. She is typically depicted with the head of a lion and on her head she often wears a sun disc and was also associated with the Uraeus snake and she fought especially on the side of the pharaohs and supported them through the weakening of the morale of the opponents and she also had magical abilities with which she could attack her enemies. Once she even had the task of being sent to earth to punish humanity for its bad deeds and this almost led to the fact that all of humanity was erased and in ancient representations, she is often confused with the goddess Bastet who was similarly depicted in ancient writings or images and it is definitely one of the most powerful deities in ancient Egypt which has been worshipped and feared at the same time.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you could learn something new about ancient Egypt! I captured these pictures with my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens.
The head of a lion. Interesting. I have always loved mythology. My mother used to tell us that when we heard thunder it was the gods bowling. At least that is what I remember. Odd coming from a woman who believes in the Christian God. 🤔

I am also a huge friend of the mythology of different cultures :) In Egyptian mythology, it is often the case that gods are depicted as animals or have the ability to transform into them. Amazing that you are also interested in this topic and were even able to associate it with your own experiences :)
