Lucile's glory-of-the-snow (Chionodoxa luciliae)

Good day everyone, I wish you all a nice Sunday and also hope that you had a relaxed weekend with many interesting experiences! I would like to present a beautiful flower today, which I have photographed growing wildly in an area near me.

Lucile's glory-of-the-snow can be seen here, which is also scientifically called Chionodoxa luciliae. The origin is Turkey and the botanical name derives from the deceased wife Lucile of the Swiss botanist Pierre Edmond Boissier (1810 - 1885), who had discovered this plant on a journey through Asia minor.

Even artificially planted, Chionodoxa luciliae can be a nice enrichment and it is relatively easy to care for. The location should best be sunny or semi-shaded and it is also resistant to pests, the propagation works by itself after sowing and it is also hardy and ecologically very useful, as it is insect-friendly.

The flowering period begins relatively early and extends between February and April and the color of the flowers is blue, purple to white. On the day I took the photos it rained, which further embellishes the pictures! Lucile's glory-of-the-snow is toxic to humans and also to animals and this characteristic has been developed by this plant to protect itself from predators.

Unfortunately, I could not find out much about mythology, otherwise I would have liked to have included something in my post! If anyone should know more about it, I would be happy to hear from someone in the comments. In any case, this plant symbolizes one thing for me, an important part of nature!

I personally like the appearance and the growth very much, and I play with the idea of cultivating it near me. When you plant it artificially, it is important to know that it only blooms after the second year.

Thanks a lot for stopping by and I hope you like my new Post! I used my camera Sony Alpha 6000 and Sony SEL-55210 Telephoto Zoom Lens (55-210mm) to take these pictures.

What a beautiful flower it is. Although I am in Turkey, this is the first time I have seen this flower. Thank you for sharing such beauty with us.

I found out that it is more common in the western part of Turkey as in the Bozdağ Mountains. Thank you for stopping by and it makes me happy that you like it! :) Have a nice evening dear @damla

It's such a thoughtful gesture that you took the time to research this. Thank you. I realized that I haven't come across this flower before, probably because I spend most of my time in the Mediterranean region rather than the Aegean. And you know what I just noticed? We both joined Hive on the same day! What a wonderful coincidence, isn't it? 🌸

Of course, I’m always happy if I find like-minded people who also likes flowers! Personally I was once in Turkey, but this was a long time ago. Also one day in the mountain region, which was an interesting experience. Now that you say it, true! That’s indeed a funny coincidence! :) Also a decision that I definitely don’t regret. Stay well, thanks for the support!
