Good day dear community, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my new post and hope you have a great start to the new weekend! Today I would like to introduce a new specimen of a mineral in more detail and hope you are able to expand your knowledge.

You can see here a rare mineral that is also known as Bayldonite and one of the numerous minerals that is found during the 19th century in the English Cornwall. If you are interested in this historic place, I can recommend this post from me here where I have already gone into more detail. It was the English physicist John Bayldon who had found the first specimens for further research and after closer examination it was named after the discoverer. According to today, only about 150 places of discovery are documented worldwide and it typically forms in the oxidation zone of copper and lead-deposits where it can be found together with other minerals with similar chemical compositions. In this specimen, the mineral can unfortunately only be seen in microform so that the typical green appearance is unfortunately not visible and with the addition with other minerals it can happen that it can take on different colors and in addition to the typical green specimens there are also black, gray or brown ones. From the systematics, it is also counted among the mineral class of vanadates, phosphates or arsenates and a typical characteristic is that it forms very small crystals which only grow a few centimeters tall and it also tends to form triplets and the surface is usually very powdery or brittle and is therefore not suitable for processing into jewelry or other art objects. In general, there are no significant areas of application from an economic point of view and it is particularly popular in the circles of collectors and also in research there is one or the other approach that could make it interesting for these purpose.
