Hecate and the Moon

Hey dear community, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my contribution and hope you are all well and your day was full of positive experiences! In this post, I would like to talk a little about the moon and mythology and hope you can expand your knowledge a little.

These pictures were already created some time ago and present the moon at different times and in this post I would like to discuss the connections to the goddess Hecate from Greek mythology. Hecate is also known as a goddess with different characteristics and she is also associated with magic, transformation or the moon and she is literally considered a diverse goddess and has the ability to transform into different shapes and there are different legends about it. She is also considered a very old goddess who is often regarded as a protector or mother of the moon and she is considered extremely helpful and if people had wishes she fulfilled them and in some traditions she also appears as a saviour like in the legend about the liberation of Persephone from the underworld. Her three shapes are also associated with the different phases of the moon and there are views that she is a mixture of the goddess of fertility demeter as well as her daughter persephone and at full moon she embodies demeter and at new moon her daughter. Often she is also regarded as the embodiment of the sky, earth and underworld and some are also of the opinion that she could be a mixture of Artemis or Selene and she is also considered as a protector of women. There are also interpreters that the trinity can be associated with different seasons and the wanning moon is often associated with winter in this context and especially her cult is celebrated during the time of the new moon and to honor her, the people often brought sacrifices and in rural areas the people thought that she could help to get a better harvest.
