Schorlomite Mineral

Hey dear Hive community, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my new post and hope you had a day that was full of positive experiences! In my new post, I would like to bring you closer to a mineral and hope you can expand your knowledge.

Today I had the opportunity to take pictures of this rare mineral, which is also known as Schorlomite and belongs to the group of grenades. The mineral is black from the appearance, which can be attributed to the high content of titanium and in the first discoveries it was assumed that it could also be black tourmaline which is also known under the name Schorl and the name is also associated with it. Schorlomite was first mentioned in writing by the mineralogist Charles Upham Shepard (1804 - 1886), but the exact place of discovery is not known, but one of the best-known ones is Hot Spring County in the state of Arkansas. A few years later, a similar mineral was discovered in Finland, which was named Iivaarite and named after the Iivaara area in the south of Kuusamo and the mineral and the exact origins are still being researched. Meanwhile, more than 50 different locations are known and the formation can be traced back to volcanic activities and the properties or chemical elements are often discussed and this mineral is a good example where a lot of space has still been left for research. From an industrial point of view, it is too rare to use it for economic purposes and it is more popular in collectors circles and a good idea for anyone looking for a unique mineral.
