Javelin and corn
Autumn, generous autumn! An abundance of vegetables and fruits and the last chance for our animals to get the necessary dose of vitamins and other nutrients to successfully survive the winter.
Our squirrels, despite the fact that they receive food daily, also make reserves for the winter. It looks very funny. They eat some of what I give them and chew the rest into small pieces and leave to dry. Then they hide it all.
That is why in autumn I always clean their enclosure very carefully, I am afraid of accidentally throwing away their precious stocks.
It will not be long before their red fur coats will change to gray ones. Our squirrels do just that. More precisely, this happened in the process of evolution, since the red coat is less noticeable in summer, and the gray one in winter.
One of the mandatory items of autumn work is to make warm houses for squirrels. I usually use straw and also give them some wool or dog hair. In general, squirrels overwinter in outdoor enclosures quite successfully.
I also don't have much hope for the success of their own supplies. As soon as I start heating the stove (which will be next week because it will rain and I will have to "dry out" the house), I dry some fruits and vegetables for them. This is a great addition to their winter diet.
They are also very fond of corn. I always buy some cobs for them. Corn is also good because the ears can be stored for quite a long time, which gives me the opportunity to please my squirrels until spring.
This is one of my favorite animals 😍 I love looking at it when it is eating something. So adorable 😍
Thank you!
