🦮🏃🏻‍♀️Canicross, una divertida carrera para perros y humanos / Canicross, a fun race for dogs and humans 🦮🏃🏻‍♀️

El domingo 7 de mayo tuve la oportunidad de asistir por primera vez a un Canicross, ¿saben de qué se trata? Es una competencia en la que los perros corren junto a sus dueños, una actividad bastante nueva en Venezuela pero que está comenzando a ganar espacios.

On Sunday May 7 I had the opportunity to attend for the first time to a Canicross, do you know what it is? It's a competition in which dogs run with their owners, a fairly new activity in Venezuela but that is beginning to gain space.

El evento se realizó en la ciudad de La Victoria, estado Aragua, en los terrenos del Guacamaya Bike Park, ubicados en la parroquia Guacamaya, un sector con bellos paisajes de montaña. Junto a mi hermana y unos amigos fuimos para allá temprano en la mañana en transporte público, no sabíamos dónde quedaba, pero hablamos con el conductor del autobús y nos avisó dónde bajar.

The event was held in the city of La Victoria, Aragua state, in the grounds of the Guacamaya Bike Park, located in the Guacamaya parish, a sector with beautiful mountain scenery. Together with my sister and some friends we went there early in the morning by public transportation, we didn't know where it was, but we talked to the bus driver and he told us where to get off.

Por aquí hay varias parcelas con plantaciones, para llegar al parque hay que caminar unos 5 minutos.

There are several plots with plantations around here. To get to the park you have to walk for about 5 minutes.

Llegamos poco después de las 8:00 de la mañana, la mayoría de los participantes ya estaban allí, aunque la carrera estaba convocada para las 7:00 am, no comenzó a esa hora.

We arrived shortly after 8:00 am, most of the participants were already there, although the race was called for 7:00 am, it didn't start at that time.

Los stands comerciales, todos relacionados con productos para mascotas, también estaban ya montados.

The commercial stands, all related to pet products, were also already set up.

Di una vuelta por el lugar para ver las instalaciones, a un lado cerca de una colina estaban demarcados los puntos de salida y llegada de la carrera, el podio para los ganadores y una tarima para la animación del evento.

I walked around the place to see the facilities, on one side near a hill were demarcated the starting and finishing points of the race, the podium for the winners and a stage for the animation of the event.

Había también una fuente con agua para que los perros pudieran tomar y refrescarse antes y después de la carrera.

There was also a water fountain for the dogs to drink and refresh themselves before and after the race.

El “1er Canicross Copa Vestigium”, nombre oficial de esta carrera, fue organizado por Jenny Guacarán de la Agropecuaria JE y por José González del Guacamaya Bike Park. Es la primera vez que se hace este tipo de evento en La Victoria y además por una ruta de montaña.

The "1st Canicross Vestigium Cup", the official name of this race, was organized by Jenny Guacarán of Agropecuaria JE and by José González of Guacamaya Bike Park. It is the first time that this type of event is held in La Victoria and also on a mountain route.

En la competencia fueron inscritos 41 perros, que según sus características físicas participaron en las categorías: mini, pequeños, medianos y grandes. Todos debían tener una revisión médica previa para verificar su estado de salud y que no hubiese ningún problema, y durante la carrera estuvieron presentes 8 veterinarios para atender a los perros en caso de ser necesario.

Forty-one dogs were entered in the competition, which, according to their physical characteristics, participated in the following categories: mini, small, medium and large. All of them had to have a medical check-up to verify their state of health and that there were no problems, and during the race there were 8 veterinarians present to attend to the dogs if necessary.

El circuito de esta carrera de montaña fue de 2 Km para los perros mini y pequeños y 4 Km para los medianos y grandes. Cada categoría salió por separado, corrieron primero los perros mini.

The circuit of this mountain race was 2 km for mini and small dogs and 4 km for medium and large dogs. Each category was run separately, the mini dogs ran first.

Como comenté al principio, nunca había presenciado un Canicross, fue emocionante ver la alegría de los perros y sus dueños corriendo juntos. Hay que mencionar que en este tipo de competencia el can debe ir con correa, ya sea amarrada a la cintura de su dueño o sostenida en su mano, no puede andar suelto.

As I mentioned at the beginning, I had never witnessed a Canicross, it was exciting to see the joy of the dogs and their owners running together. It is worth mentioning that in this type of competition the dog must be on a leash, either tied to the owner's waist or held in his hand, he cannot run loose.

Otras reglas de la carrera son que el dueño debe ir detrás del perro, no adelantarse a él y halarlo, tampoco debe cargarlo. Si comete cualquiera de estas faltas es descalificado.

Other rules of the race are that the owner must go behind the dog, not go ahead and pull it, nor must he carry it. If he commits any of these faults he is disqualified.

Junto a unos amigos, fuimos invitados al evento para participar como expositores, para vender cosas alusivas a las mascotas y así recaudar algo para colaborar con animales que están bajo nuestra protección.

Together with some friends, we were invited to the event to participate as exhibitors, to sell things related to pets and thus collect something to collaborate with animals that are under our protection.

Muchas personas se acercaron a nuestros puestos para ver nuestras creaciones, aunque no fue mucho, todos vendimos algo y fue una buena oportunidad para darnos a conocer y que nos siguieran por las redes sociales.

Many people came to our stands to see our creations, although it was not much, we all sold something and it was a good opportunity to make ourselves known and to be followed on social networks.

Volviendo a la carrera, estuve pendiente para fotografiar la llegada a la meta de la primera categoría: los perros mini.

Returning to the race, I was waiting to photograph the arrival at the finish line of the first category: the mini dogs.

Inmediatamente la siguiente categoría se reunió en la línea de salida para competir, los perros de tamaño mediano son los que mayor participación tuvieron, allí estuvo la perra de mi amiga Virginia, su esposo corrió con ella.

Immediately the next category gathered at the starting line to compete, the medium size dogs are the ones that had the highest participation, there was my friend Virginia's dog, her husband ran with her.

Esta categoría fue también donde más alboroto hubo, los perros estaban súper excitados, muchos de los dueños no podían seguirles el ritmo.

This category was also where there was the most commotion, the dogs were super excited, many of the owners could not keep up with them.

El husky que ven en la foto a continuación fue el ganador de esta categoría, estos perros son conocidos por lo activos que son, no me sorprendió que fuera el vencedor.

The husky you see in the photo below was the winner of this category, these dogs are known for how active they are, I wasn't surprised that he was the winner.

Y el segundo lugar fue para esta hermosa loba blanca.

And second place went to this beautiful white she-wolf.

Otra de las actividades que se realizaron durante el Canicross fue una exhibición a cargo del adiestrador canino Liberto Gala y su Pastor Belga Malinois. Con demostraciones ofreció al público varios consejos para mejorar la conducta de sus perros tanto en el hogar como la socialización.

Another of the activities that took place during the Canicross was an exhibition by dog trainer Liberto Gala and his Belgian Shepherd Malinois. With demonstrations he offered the public several tips to improve the behavior of their dogs both at home and socialization.

Algunas personas aprovecharon para hacer preguntas y encontraron respuestas sobre cómo resolver ciertas malas mañas de sus amigos caninos.

Some people took the opportunity to ask questions and found answers on how to solve certain bad habits of their canine friends.

Además, los patrocinadores del evento hicieron rifas y muchos participantes se llevaron premios para sus mascotas.

In addition, the event sponsors held raffles and many participants won prizes for their pets.

Como a la 1:30 de la tarde comenzó el momento más emocionante, la premiación, primero para los ganadores de la categoría mini.

At about 1:30 in the afternoon the most exciting moment began, the awards ceremony, first for the winners of the mini category.

Este es el trofeo que les dieron, hecho de rebanadas de troncos.

This is the trophy they were given, made from slices of logs.

Siguió la premiación para la categoría de perros pequeños, allí fueron reconocidos los cinco primeros lugares.

The awards for the small dogs category followed, where the first five places were recognized.

Y finalmente las categorías de perros medianos y grandes, en ambas también se premiaron los cinco primeros lugares.

And finally the categories of medium and large dogs, in both of which the first five places were also awarded.

Los ganadores de todas las categorías se llevaron un buen combo de productos, y todos los participantes recibieron una medalla.

The winners of all categories won a nice combo of products, and all participants received a medal.
