Greetings, dear fellow members of this beautiful community of pet lovers. Today I want to share with you a very special experience I had recently.

A few days ago, I went out with my husband to the city center to do some errands, the main one was to withdraw money from the bank, but as I am not very fond of standing in line and waiting, I suggested him to go alone, while I waited for him in the Plaza Bolivar.

Being in that square is always a delight for me, you can breathe fresh air thanks to its abundant vegetation and its imposing trees that provide shade and beauty, it is also home to various animal species such as squirrels, iguanas, sloths and a variety of birds that give life to the place.

---

While I was resting sitting on one of the benches, an elderly lady approached me accompanied by her granddaughter, the girl seemed very excited to be in the square, her grandmother and I began to talk, she told me that the girl had accompanied her to mass on the condition that she would allow her to play making bubbles there, while the lady talked to me friendly, about the relaxed atmosphere of the square and the joy of seeing the children enjoying the outdoors.

The girl, happy, began to blow bubbles with great energy, as if she was creating magic in the air, at that moment, something unexpected happened, an iguana came down slowly from the tall trees surrounding the place, it did not seem to be afraid, on the contrary, it approached with curiosity towards people, as if looking for attention or food.

Its behavior caught my attention, it was evident that it was used to human presence and that it trusted those who visited the square, because of its calm and sociable attitude, I immediately considered it as a kind of mascot of the square, unlike the iguanas that we usually see in wilder areas, this one had a special nature, it moved among people with familiarity, as if it was part of the usual landscape.

I approached cautiously, although I must admit that I did it with some fear, the iguana tried to climb into my hands, which made me nervous, but also made me admire the bravery of the little girl, who fearlessly offered her some of her breakfast that grandma kept in a small cup. The iguana accepted the food calmly and, from that moment on, she was even more confident, in no hurry to return to the trees, as if she enjoyed human company as much as we enjoyed hers.

As time went by my husband arrived, we decided to continue with our errands, as I said goodbye, the old lady, the brave girl and our new green friend were still sharing moments in the plaza, while several people passing by, stopped to take pictures of them, that image that reflected the magic of nature and a friendly iguana.

I think experiences like this are reminders of how special everyday life can be when we allow ourselves to observe, connect and enjoy it, and that iguana may not have a collar or formal owner, but the heart of the plaza seems to have adopted it as one of its most beloved inhabitants, so since that day for me that is the mascot of the Plaza Bolivar in the center of the city.

Hace unos días, salí con mi esposo al centro de la ciudad para hacer algunas diligencias, la principal era retirar dinero del banco, pero como no soy muy amante de hacer filas y esperar, le propuse que fuera el solo, mientras yo lo esperaba en la Plaza Bolívar

Estar en esa plaza siempre es un deleite para mí, se respira aire fresco gracias a su abundante vegetación y sus imponentes árboles que nos brindan sombra y belleza, además, es hogar de diversas especies animales como ardillas, iguanas, perezosas y una gran variedad de aves que le dan vida al lugar.

Mientras descansaba sentada en uno de los bancos, se acercó una señora mayor que estaba acompañada de su nieta, la niña parecía muy entusiasmada por estar en la plaza, su abuela y yo nos pusimos a conversar, ella me contaba que la niña la había acompañado a misa con la condición de que luego le permitiera jugar haciendo burbujas allí, mientras la señora, me hablaba amigablemente, sobre el ambiente relajado de la plaza y la alegría de ver a los niños disfrutar del aire libre.

La niña, feliz, comenzó a hacer burbujas con una gran energía, como si estuviera creando magia en el aire, en ese momento, ocurrió algo inesperado, una iguana bajó lentamente desde los altos árboles que rodean el lugar, no parecía tener miedo, al contrario, se acercaba con curiosidad hacia las personas, como si buscara atención o alimento.

Me llamó mucho la atención su comportamiento, era evidente que estaba acostumbrada a la presencia humana y que confiaba en quienes visitaban la plaza, por su actitud tranquila y sociable, la consideré inmediatamente como una especie de mascota de la plaza, a diferencia de las iguanas que solemos ver en zonas más silvestres, esta tenía una naturaleza especial,m se movía entre la gente con familiaridad, como si fuese parte del paisaje habitual.

Me acerqué con cautela, aunque debo admitir que lo hice con algo de miedo, la iguana intentó treparse a mis manos, lo cual me puso nerviosa, pero también me hizo admirar la valentía de la niña, quien sin temor le ofreció algo de su desayuno que la abuela guardaba en una pequeña taza. La iguana aceptó la comida con tranquilidad y, a partir de ese momento, se mostró aún más confiada, no tenía nada de apuro por volver a los árboles, como si disfrutara de la compañía humana tanto como nosotros de la suya.

Al pasar el rato llegó mi esposo, decidimos continuar con nuestras diligencias, al despedirme, la señora mayor, la niña valiente y nuestra nueva amiga verde seguían compartiendo momentos en la plaza, mientras varias personas que pasaban, se detenían a tomarles fotos, esa imagen que reflejaban la magia de la naturaleza y una iguana amigable.

Creo que experiencias como esta son recordatorios de lo especial que puede ser la vida cotidiana cuando nos permitimos observar, conectar y disfrutar de ella, y puede que esa iguana no tenga collar ni dueño formal, pero el corazón de la plaza parece haberla adoptado como una de sus habitantes más queridas, así que desde ese día para mí esa es la mascota de la Plaza Bolívar del centro de la ciudad.
