“Market Friday” ~ Donating to the St Peter's Church, Tickencote - Rutland UK 🇬🇧 Norman ARCH.

avatar

Hi all 👋🏻

For my next post in our lovely community this Friday for the #MarketFriday by @dswigle - Denise. I will show you some photographic #impressions from when I visited this church with #Norman features ~ St Peter's Church, Tickencote - Rutland UK 🇬🇧
The main attraction was to see the NORMAN ARCH.

‼️If you want to know more about #MarketFriday’s have a look at this post about it: “To Market, to Market: By Market Friday“ from @dswigle you find also the rules what to post if you want to join us.

These photographs are taken with my #iPhone on 18 April earlier this year 2022 📱😎🤓 when we visited friends and #family in #England and I will follow the time stamps on them. So you can walk with me a little while 💃🏻💃🏻

More information about this church you can find Here in Wikipedia!

It’s location on Google maps you find by the yellow star:

Let me start with #alwaysaflower, these blossoms greeted us when we entered the church yard. It was the middle of April so #spring time… my favourite #season 🥰

We see many old graves under the #blossoms 🌸🌸🌸

Walking towards the church we see more graves in all forms. Normally I would show you cemeteries in black and white, but I think, as it was spring… let’s enjoy the colours from Mother Nature a bit 😉🥰

Here we see the side of the church… is its architecture not amazing? All those intricate details 😊🤓

Looking back towards the street before we walk further around the church to the back were the door is located.

More details.

The first thing we notice when we enter is the NORMAN ARCH 😎

WOW look at the arches… and all the details. Each face and head is different along it.

It was featured in The Sunday times, architectural guide.

It says:
”In early Norman churches of the 11th century such as Tixover and Old Shoreham there is little decorative carving, but 12th-century churches are distinguished by a profusion of ornament.
At Tickencote, Rutland the chancel opening consists of a series of six concentric arches, each of which is decorated with a different and typically Norman motif.”

Looking up we see the amazing glass stained windows with beautiful details.

Looking in the direction of the altar, we see the construction a bit more.

Looking at the back of the arch.

This church was helped by the Conservation Trust and kept well. Restored in 2019.

Stated on here:
”The exterior of the church is 18th Century, but decorated with Norman-style features and was majorly rebuilt by benefactor Lady Eliza Wingfield in 1791.

The original church was built in around 1150, which is where the main feature, the striking Norman arch with six interestingly decorated orders appears slightly distorted, due to the weight of the wall above. The wonderful chancel vaulting is also very unusual for this time period, in its great swathes of octopus-like tentacles and may be the earliest example in Britain.”

Anybody can help this TRUST by #DONATION to it, as it is for the survival of history and beautiful old architecture/ buildings for generations to come.

Their website you find Here: Visit Churches!

In every church you will find also a place were you can DONATE to help the church.

Do you donate? To a church or any other good cause?
I do once in a while… 🤓

Walking back out side, this lantern caught my eye 😎

Another angle…

Walking through the gate we see above us.

And looking back from the street. Beautiful woodwork 😎 the blossoms framing it nicely.

I walk along the wall and take these last 2 photographs. Looking into the church yard…

And now focussing on the moss on top of the wall. 🤓

With this last photo… I want to say: that’s all for today’s #MarketFriday post. Hope you enjoyed coming along with me to this old church and see it’s beautiful architectural features and see what donations can save.
Until the next one! 👋🏻😎 are you joining me again soon? 😉💃🏻

Thank you for looking and reading 😊 🙏🏻
Any questions or comments, let me know. Always happy to help.

Have a great Friday all 😎

It was the perfect timing season wise…
The location is peaceful maybe 5 houses in that town and than open fields. So plenty of areas to wander about and just be surrounded in nature. 😊
Have a wonderful Friday @leaky20

Hello again. Churches and cemetery's, interesting how they're often one and the same.

Awkward question alert: Would you mind if I tweaked the shit outta the third image down? I won't use it or anything, just wanna see what I can do with it. It's a really nice photo.

That’s great to hear @lhes 😊
I’m not religious but when I see a good cause, like saving this beautiful architecture I’m all for helping.

Spring is wonderful… I can’t wait to live somewhere where I have it too. Now in Spain… this kind of spring as in the photos we do not have in the south.
Have a wonderful day today 👋🏻😊 thanks for visiting ☀️

Wow! The kind of architetural pieces that exists before the recent times make me wonder how men came up with them. Now this, look at the wonderful arch elegantly placed and designed. The voracious woodwork! Even the burial grounds were still stuck with elegant crosses on them. 😊

By the way, you did a good job in capturing those moments. Kudos!

You are right about posting these in color. All the photos are pretty to look at especially the one with flowers. The details are interesting too. Lovely tone and texture overall. I used to donate when I was still going to church but I haven't done that in a long time.

Glad to hear that @leeart 😊 yes, colours were needed this time.
Thank you so much 😎 even though taken on my iPhone I’m happy with their outcome. 📸
I don’t go anymore to church, only when I was a child. Now I’m not religious anymore…
Have a wonderful new week 👋🏻☀️🌺🐝

Iphones have superior cameras though so they take better pictures :)

They do nowadays, they get better every upgrade. All phones 📱 😎
Mine has something inside one of the lenses. I see a blurry spot when I zoom out for wide angle landscape way… mostly you see it in my skies I take. Sometimes I can cut it, sometimes I don’t. Hehehe 🤭
Maybe you will notice now too in my photos to come.
I won’t upgrade my phone yet. First some moves 😉😎 maybe a camera 📸 first before a new phone.
We will see. I am contemplating a camera… as end of September we go on holidays to the US for 2 weeks.
Hhhmmm choices 😉🤓

Maybe for us who don't know it won't notice the blur :D I'm sure it's negligible for the overall photo is what's more important. If the blur is not a major issue, then go for camera :D Oohhh another trip! That sounds exciting :D

For me… I always see it hahaha 🤣 funny thing. !LOL
It is perfectly round.

Yes can’t wait. Will be nice after 2 and a bit years to finally go away far again. We are going on an exploration tour… to locate a area we would like to live 😉 So it is extra exciting 🤩😎 I will post all about it of course hehehe 🤭
And a great break after the move from Monday… all the packing etc.
So still thinking how badly I want a new camera. My last DSLR died in Cuba in 2019 😖 including the lens.
Have a wonderful Wednesday further @leeart 👋🏻☀️🐝

I usually do graveyards in black and white, and yet, the last time I did Arlington National Cemetery, I chose the color. It had the cemetery with the horse-drawn carriage pulling the flag-covered casket to its final resting place. That I liked in color. For some reason, graveyards draw me in, perhaps it is the story that they tell, about people, events, family, and the history of it all.

The person leaving this life was very much revered, and respected and care was taken of the family. Times have changed and although there is respect, the monuments have gotten smaller and the mourning period is over much sooner. Widows used to wear black for a very long time, now some cannot wait to wear white and run down the aisle again. :)

Kidding of course.

This is truly a beautiful post. The trees look like cherry blossoms in the Spring. Loveliness frames the harsh reality of death, softening it. Have a beautiful day!

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service.
    Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive or cheap? Did it go up or down? Please do not post 30 pictures with no words about them.Do not use pictures more than once in a post!
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess on some
    4. #MarketFriday must be your first tag.
Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
    5. PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  4. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.
As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!

Yes, I remember Denise. That one just needed to be in colour too. You are right.
Funny that so many people are drawn towards graveyards. They do fascinate me too. They make for some amazing photography.
It’s history… maybe even the unknown… can we get a glimpse from that there? Maybe we do.

I understand… they used to wear black much longer, now society expects people to get in with life much faster. Luckily still most people take their time that is needed. 😎

Thank you so much, the blossoms do seem to frame it all and gives it a whole different feeling. The beautiful weather helped too with blue sky and sun.

Have a wonderful day too dear @dswigle 😊👋🏻☀️ It’s a new week!
Enjoy your Monday!
