Let's Admire the Pinkish Flamingos and White Horses of the Camargue | France

avatar

Ever since my grandmother handed me a National Geographic Magazine with a story about the stunning horses and Flamingos of the Camargues Marshes, I knew I wanted to go here and see it for myself. Many years, I couldn't make it since the time was not there and France is very far away, but now I happened to be in southern France, I knew that my little dream could become reality! And ohh it was so worth it!

Let's admire the Pinkish Flamingos and White Horses of the Camargue

Last week, I decided to finally drive south towards the Marshes of the Camargue, an area which I had wanted to visit for a couple of years. This time, I finally made it and it wasn't disappointing at all! The area is famous for the white Camargue Horses and Flamingos! I have never seen wild Flamingos in my life and it was definitely the reason I wanted to visit this place. I went to ""Le Parc Ornithologique de Pont de Gau" which is supposed to be the best place to see flamingos in the wild.

You can find the flamingo all year round in the Camargue and there are a lot of them. It really isn't hard to spot them.

I parked my van along the road and arrived around 11am. It was around 30 degrees Celsius so it was quite hot, but I am very much okay with the heat. There are 2 routes in the park, the first one is 2,8 km and really good, although more crowded with people. If you want more, you can walk the second part afterwards, which is longer and takes around one extra hour. I choose to walk this second route as well as I am always curious what will be out there! It felt more natural, although the Flamingos were a bit further away from the shore.

On the second route I also saw some horses! Beautiful white horses which roam around freely through the national park of the Camargue.
The Camargue has also semi-wild bulls which roam around freely, a breed which is just like the Camargue horse native to the area. However, I wasn't lucky enough to see them but I am very satisfied with what I did see today!

It is funny to see them fly, they don't look anything like other birds. However, I wish I could have made a better shot

The Majestic white Camargue Horses

Besides those pinkish birds, you can find here also the majestic white Camargue horses as I mentioned earlier already, and I was lucky enough to see them! I believe I took some really great photographs of them.

Taking a rest in the middle of the park. It was hot and I needed some water break while enjoying a view over the majestic white horses

The Camargue is Marshland, which means lots of water, and as you can see: Birds. But a lot of mosquitos as well! Better wear mosquito repellent when you are in this area closer to sunrise and sunset! I went there in the middle of the day, so I haven't seen any mosquitoes. However, the beach I parked that night had plenty of them! I choose to stay inside in the evening to prevent myself from being eaten alive.

I got excited when I saw pinkish flamingos in the south of Spain. Too bad, I don't have close up photos.

It looks like you've been waiting for this moment for so long to enjoy, while observing all of your images & words I ensured. Though all of the images you took neatly, I love the horse one most, became you took a great angle of it.

I didn't know this story about your grandmother. I'm even happier for the moments we shared in Sant'Antioco. Destiny :)
