📷 „Dancing House“ – Handheld Long Exposures [EN/DE]

The Dancing House in Prague, also called „Fred and Ginger,“ is an iconic building designed in 1996 by architects Vlado Milunić and Frank Gehry. Its unconventional, curved shape, resembling a dancing couple, contrasts with the city’s historic architecture. Located on the Vltava River, it houses offices, a restaurant, and a viewing terrace. To give my shots a little more momentum, I used a longer exposure time of a quarter of a second here. This allowed me to achieve this motion blur for passing vehicles without having to use a tripod.

I guess you're using a mirrorless camera?

One of the reasons I started using Leica around 94 was to get rid of the vibrations of an SLR, also actually seeing the image while it was exposed was a great help.

Now these things are of course much easier, but still 1/25th of a second requires a steady hand!

I used to do 1/8th routinely with no blur, but not in the mornings or after coffee haha... Managed 1/4th in action, tack sharp a few times too, but that was outliers...

Yes, I'm using a Sony A7RIII. Haha, same here, 1/4 sec. like in these shots I can do hand held, but not always super sharp. Still it keeps me from taking a tripod with me all the time 😅

1/4th I mean, sure, the weird meds I use for my back right now messed with my numbers haha...

Initially when I got real digital gear around 2006 I had to adjust everything up a bit, since even a Nikon D200 has a better, or more revealing resolution than even 50 ASA film!

Haha, yeah I'm still using ASA and not ISO in my mind, I guess the eighties want me back 😜

I have always wanted to visit this place and take pictures of this peculiar building. The long exhibition here is so great.

Awesome shots @travelshots as usual :)
