Sublime and Beautiful Sunday for the birds

Sublime and Beautiful Sunday a few Bird shots

This post is for #SublimeSunday, inspired by @c0ff33a, and #BeautifulSunday is initiated by @ace108.

For today's post, I thought I would slip in a few shots of birds. I do like trying to catch OK photos of birds, but honestly, I do not do it much for a couple of reasons.

One being when I go out early morning for most of my walks, the light is not ideal for bird shots, especially with them flying as you need a fast shutter speed to catch them clearly, and with low light, that also means high ISO, which can make the images grainy and noisy.

And secondly, for my early morning walks, I mostly take wider-angle lenses, my Tamron Pair the 17-28 and 28-75, lenses not really suited for birding.

But i have gone out a couple of mornings also taking my longer lens the tamron 50-400mm which is OK for birding, not as good as my big Sony 200-600, but that is a beast, so I generally only taken it out if I am specifically going birding during the day which I havent tried this year yet.

Now I took the 50-400 with me a couple of times hoping to catch shots of the Osprey flying from its nest which can be seen from on the Harbor walk on top of the Hurricane barrier wall, but the two times I have been there, the Osprey were chilling and taking it easy in the nest so I didnt catch any shots of them.

But I have got a few bird shots, and here they are

Starting with this Egret, they are often near the Hurricane Barrier wall Heading out by Popes Island here in New Bedford, but they dont let me get to close before they fly away as this one did

Next up is a Double-crested Cormorant, unlike most waterbirds their wings are not waterproof and that is why you may see them standing with wings spread drying out their feathers.

Haha ya!

While I came back for all of that fantastic early sky colour or historic cobble stones, happy to see these large birds! Since I only shoot on my phone, I find my bird attempts just can’t do them justice no matter how hard I try.

I was looking out for cormorants during our last regatta but the fog didn’t cooperate. ;)

I really like the first two photos, in which the structure of the water created a beautiful background for the bird.

Have a nice Sunday!
