All the characters in this set have stories about them in the instruction book

Such as these two on the left is Shunji Miyamoto
Once a sworsdman known as Iron BLade, now a humble Izakay Owner and sushi master. The scare by his eye and the stubble on his face tell the story of a forgotten legend, His salmon filleting skills are unmatched

and on the right is Changfeng Li
Shabby Clothes and a liquor soaked nose, once a legend now a drunkard. His self taught drunken boxing is alike a drago soaring in the sky, and his glazed eyes hide the past glory and present decline.

Now not in the book but my own thinking, I feel Shunji is trying to give some assistance to Changfeng and help him to get his life back on track, watched closey by the robot dog which is standing up again in this photo
