Above the Tree

The tree came inside a bit earlier than I had hoped, but that also meant that the decorating can begin! And the tree really is very nice, so I don't mind the process of getting all the nonsense out of wherever it has spent the last 11.5 months hidden away and get it organized.

There was one little issue though - while the tree does fit under the ceiling, there isn't space for the star to be atop it properly, but hey, that is fine...

And we have three homemade and decorated gingerbread to hang on the tree which is mazing, siince they are still there, uneaten (by me) after about two weeks.

PC220066.jpg

I am not religious in any way and have no major connection to Christmas (other than the ham), but when it is winter here and everything is frozen outside, it is nice to have a little greenery inside and the lights that offer some sense of warmth.

As well as some shiny, plastic balls to make it glamorous.

PC220006.jpg

Decorating is serious business.

PC220035.jpg

PC220032.jpg

PC220016.jpg

I mean really, Smallsteps was going back and looking at the tree from various angles to make sure that there weren't bare spots missing decorations or, there weren't too many too close to each other.

PC220048.jpg

PC220051.jpg

"Too many too close" is a very subjective opinion.

Objectively: she puts too many too close together.

I move them a bit.

PC220019.jpg

A rare decorating smile.

Then back to serious...

PC220033.jpg

PC220017.jpg

And if I want a picture of myself doing anything, I have to find a reflection and take it myself. If it wasn't for these reflection shots, I wouldn't appear at any family events at all.

PC220040.jpg

And the final result:

PC230076.jpg

PC230072.jpg

The house ends up looking quite nice throughout the Christmas, as my wife is not working as much and feels the obligation to keep it neat and tidy, especially since people might drop by for a visit on short notice.

We won't be here for Christmas day on the 24th, but the tree will stay up until the traditional time to take it down, which is January the 6th (public holiday here), The Epiphany.

Great idea.

The stars are annoying...

PC220004.jpg

They look nice in the windows and all, but all of the lights we use are Philips Hue lights, but these aren't. So rather than just getting into bed and turning all the lights off from my phone, I have to walk around the house and switch each of these off one by one. There aren't that many of them, but it still annoys me, because I often forget these types of "ad hoc tasks" and they are on all night, which annoys me even more. There don't take much electricity as they are all low-watt LED, but it is the thought that counts.

Major life problems...

Well... one more day of work tomorrow and then my holiday starts, though my wife and daughter are already finished for the year and will be playing around whilst I am still sitting at my desk. I do plan on finishing a bit early and getting the Christmas cheer on. I just need to go and buy a bottle or two of wine - but I am sure that there won't be anyone else at the shops the day before Christmas....

More life problems...

It was a nice evening tonight and the house feels warm - so it can't be that bad in life!

I've never heard of an official day set to take down the decorations, but I think this is a great initiative. I will implement it in my home as well since our little tree ended up in our living room until mid-March!

Your tree is really beautiful and it's wonderful to see you in action while you decorate it eh eh! Yes, traditionally here too the tree is disassembled on January 6, but there are crazy people like us in my family...

... that we took it apart after Easter, just in time to take pictures of the Easter eggs under the tree heh heh!

A little bit up, a little bit we adore Christmas and a little bit we like the tree too much... it makes that part of the house too beautiful heh heh. Then I confess to being quite unconventional dehihi 😅

Unconventional for sure. As long as you like it, that is what matters in your own home. :)

Hahahaha. The Grinch! Christmas is beautiful, especially if there are children. Here at home we decorate the tree because my niece is coming and she already made her letter to the baby Jesus. I live in a neighborhood where there are a lot of low income people so seeing the tree on the front porch has been the talk of the street. Many children stop with their mothers and point to the tree: "The tree, the tree! they say and it seems magical to me. One of the most tedious things is to remove the tree. Here we take it down after the arrival of the Three Wise Men and by that time the Christmas "spirit" has been forgotten. Anyway, the pictures are beautiful and the models are beautiful. Ah, how great Smallsteps is! Christmas greetings, @tarazkp

I am glad that you have one up and the locals are also enjoying the sight of it. It is nice to have some kind of shared community goodness and even the small things matter in this regard.

Have a great Christmas with your niece and family and hopefully you have a lot of good food to eat :)

I believe that's the actual birthday of the person it's meant to be a birthday celebration for XD

I'm generally not in photos either for the same reason. Every now and again I'll think about doing a selfie (and even less often I might actually do one).

It is looking quite nice. Star scraping the roof is exactly as it should be XP

unless you have high ceilings like my parents do in which case the tree might be "too big"

Gonna do the "have a good silly season" thing now in case I don't get to comment again for a few days :D

I am going to try

Something like that - or when wise men did something, or a magical goat....

Traditional conditional met!

Have fun this weekend and enjoy the extra days of quiet(ish)ness :)

The decorations looks so nice and it is really nice seeing small steps in partaking to decorate. I also love the reflection of you which shows your presence to be part as well.

when it is winter here and everything is frozen outside

Then you shouldn't buy the white one as it would make you remind the snow and ice outside :) I would prefer green one too. Some people also decorate it at their houses here despite not being Christian.

In the apartment, we had a white tree because our apartment was all white too :D

Yeah, we don't care about any of the religious side - just for fun :)

Yep - kids love it and I think what Smallsteps likes the most is, having the time with us to play and not have to rush off to various places and tasks.
