Summer at the lake

Monday

Time for some lake pictures 🙂

Tuesday

Seven days of life at Lake Dunmore.

Wednesday

Lake Dunmore is in Addison County, Vermont straddling the towns of Salisbury and Leicester.

Thursday

All the town names around here are from England.

Friday

The town charter for Salisbury was from good old King George (kudos to Johnaton Groff for his portrayal in Hamilton 😂) in 1761 - indirectly through the Royal Governor.

Saturday

Lake Dunmore was named for and BY lol Lord Dunmore shortly after he was governor of New York in 1773.

Sunday

I've been studying up on American Revolutionary history with the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Repeat

Lord Dunmore famously made the Dunmore Proclaimation credited as the first mass emancipation of enslaved people in North America. It only applied to people enslaved by patriots and didn't end well but does retain its spot in history. Vermont was the first state to ban slavery. Adult slavery was banned in its 1777 constitution. Technically, Vermont was a republic from 1777 to 1791 when it was admitted into the Union as the 14th state. New York claimed Vermont's lands during that period and the Green Mountain Boys fought to protect their land. Eventually like most political conflicts 🙄 New York was paid off and Vermont became a state.

Yes, it's the best time of year to enjoy this magnificent lake... Good historical point, always cool to learn something.
Have a great evening

Thanks. I could use a break from the heat right now. Maybe a jump in the lake tomorrow 🙂

Great pictures/ I like how you used them as leverage to detail history.

Thanks. I've been watching a lot of American history documentaries and Lord Dunmore usually comes up.
