Tonight's Sunset At Coldstream Pond

I got out for some late afternoon cross-country skiing today, mainly to get some exercise. But I always try to have my camera with me when I go outside... Glad I did! The sunset ended up being a decent one, so I stopped at Coldstream Pond (near Donner Lake) for a few photos. It wasn't that cold out, but I forgot my foam Z-Seat that helps me sit on snow without getting cold or wet. Well, my butt got very wet and then very cold, lol. It was worth it. I dig this photo!

Shot with a Canon 5DS R and a 16-35mm lens. The ISO was 640, the lens aperture was f/10, and the shutter speed was 1/30 of a second. The camera was set up on a tripod and I was taking some "test shots" when I captured this exposure. By the time I changed my settings to have a smaller lens aperture for a better depth of field, the color to the clouds started fading and the photos weren't as nice. I should have gotten to the spot a few minutes earlier!

While out there, I shot this little YouTube short. I've been having fun creating these while I shoot lately:

Thanks for looking and I hope you all had a great evening too!

Gotta get out there! It's great to experience moments like these, and having the camera to capture it makes it even better.

It's so frustrating how quickly the colors changes during a sunset. I've had a couple times where even just trying to use my phone to take a shot will be cumbersome enough that by the time I get my phone out and set everything up, the setting looks completely different. I always tell myself, "Hey, at least I got to see it!"

Right?! Sometimes they seem to last forever, and other times... Bam! It's there and it's gone. Good attitude, it is always nice to see.

When the snow stops and thus what is snow is turning into water, there is definitely some trouble here, but the joy of seeing all the things that snow brings is more than enough.

Spring is right around the corner... Gotta enjoy that snow while it's still there.

Great shot. Love the color behind the trees and reflection. I checked out the short. Nice change up from the longer videos.

Great shot! I love the composition and that the line between the ice and the ground is roughly in the middle of the shot. Beautiful sunset!

I hope this was at the end of your cross-country skiing as doing it with wet but doesn't sound too good 😂
