Star Lake Backpacking Adventure - Day 2
Day 2 of this past weekend's backpacking adventure started out great. I was treated to a nice sunrise, however, I did have to scramble fast to shoot it as I had not set my alarm clock. Fortunately, my sleeping bag wasn't very far from this scene below so I was able to get some photos while there was still color to the clouds.
Shot with a Canon 5DS R and a 24-105mm lens, set at 24mm. The ISO was 50, the lens aperture was f/22, and it was a 1.3 second long exposure (on a tripod).
After the photo above, we ate breakfast, packed up the backpack, and put the Canon away. I decided to take a few pics of the camp with the cell phone before we left, and a quick selfie.
And then we were off. We all had great attitudes to start with and we were feeling ready to tackle the next 16 miles of our trip.
This scene below stopped me in my tracks again, and I went through the work of taking off the pack and getting out the Canon again. At this point, yes, that was work. We were all starting to get tired but we still had a long way to go...
Snack time again. A Tahoe Trailbar with Lake Tahoe in the background.
The scenery was incredible along the whole hike. But 16 miles after a 9 mile day was a bit more than any of us were ready for. My backpack was the lightest at about 34 pounds but it began to feel a lot heavier than that. The last couple miles were rough. All our attitudes had changed, but we pressed on.
Finally!!!! The end of the trail! only a short walk back to the truck after a restroom break. Then we went and ate $24 aged beef burgers! They were incredible and well deserved in my opinion.
I went for another hike yesterday with more friends and Quill dog, about 4 miles. However, I think I will be taking a break this weekend. Office work and maybe some yard work...
Thank you for reading and I hope you are all having a great day!

Tahoe @Tahoe 😁 Love that first shot. The sky and mountains and reflections. All in a totally different color palette than a few minutes later when the sun comes out and turns everything blue.
Thanks @steven-patrick! I almost missed that sunrise...
These are great. Looks like you had an awesome time.
Awesome time indeed! It was fun to hike something that was new to me. Cheers!
Wow, amazing pictures my friend!
Thank you! It's an amazing area.
Heaven🤩☺️
Well, that last two miles was more of a hell. But yes, it was heaven most of the time. Oh, and part of the hike was actually on Heavenly Ski Resort and the trail went under some ski lifts. Cheers!
That sounds great😊
Awesome shots and a spectacular hike! Think I would also do it if I lived in CA.
Thank you! Tons of photogenic views along this trail.
What a scene to wake up to, luckily you was up in time hehehe 🤭 to capture that shot.
