Frost Along The Truckee River
While waiting for an oil change on my car today, I decided to go for a little walk along the nearby Truckee River in Downtown Truckee, California. I had packed my camera in my backpack, anticipating the wait and knowing that I would get bored and want to get some exercise.
It was another chilly morning in Truckee, so I was looking for icy scenes to shoot. It didn't take long before I found these frost covered plants along the Truckee River. The sun was shining on the frost, lighting it up and making it glow. The Truckee River backdrop was the cherry on top. Score! I was happy with these photos and shooting them was a great way to kill some time while I waited.
Shot handheld with the Canon 5DS R and a 24-105mm lens. The ISO was 400, the shutter speed was 1/125 of a second long, and the lens apertures were f/22. I wanted a nice small lens aperture in order to get a good depth of field, and to try to capture the background a bit. The background is not completely sharp because I was zoomed in on the plants and frost, and they were close to my lens. If I had used wide lens apertures, the background would be even more soft and out of focus, you would not be able to tell it was a river at all.
Here's a quick YouTube Short, so you can get a better look at the river and the scene.

Thanks for looking, and I hope you are all having a cool day!

Looking at your photos makes me want to buy a camera.
But it's expensive, so I can't afford it. I'm happy with my smartphone.
I'm wondering if Samsung and Apple smartphones have gotten better
and can take pretty good quality photos.❤️
Glad you like those @veryhappyday! Smartphones take incredible photos these days and are great for displaying on monitors and screens. The big difference is when you go to print it up large. The small lenses and image sensors are not the same as the larger glass lenses and much bigger image sensors on a DSLR. I occasionally sell big prints to customers and there is no way that a smartphone can print up a big 40"x90" print (at least for now...).
Thank you. I appreciate the information. 👍

After the snowfall, the snow on everything like this looks very beautiful, especially the trees and all such things and the water that is covered with snow also looks very beautiful.
So, this is actually frost, and not snow. It forms on things when the temperature and humidity are just right. Glad you like that!
Damn!!!!
That last picture is everything!
It is extremely beautiful
Nice shot!
Ah dang, I should have started with that photo. Glad you like it, thanks!
This is really looking great. I love the shot
Thanks @precab! It was a beautiful morning.
I wish I could take beautiful pictures like these. Your shots are always very nice
Just got to keep you eyes out for beautiful scenes and a camera in your backpack. Thank you, glad you like them!
I love the frost. Great pics. I noticed some frost like this on a hike the other day but didn’t stop to try and capture it. Well done 👍
Thanks @steven-patrick! I'm glad I had some time to kill. It's easy to pass right by the frost when doing other things.
The sunlight illuminated the frost, casting a brilliant glow and bringing forth a dazzling display.
Wonderful scene.
Right?! It was a great looking scene. Glad you like it!
Nice shots, I can see the River and then the snow covered plants and I also can see the plants gradually opening up. Very beautiful indeed
Glad you like those, and thank you!
I really love this beautiful pictures you shared
Great to hear, thanks @biyimi!
It's a good thing that you decided to go for an exercise while waiting for your car oil to be changed and also great that you came along with your camera.
This winter period, your shot of the plants covered in ice are gorgeous.
Glad you like those! Yes, it was much better to get some exercise than to just sit there, looking at my phone.
I would do the same if I were you, I mean going for a walk while they work on your car 😁
It's always fun when I see all these ice on everything, the plants, walkways, cars because over here, it doesn't snow. So yes, your shots are fun to me.
Happy to share our chilly little town with you! Normally, I would go home and wait until I got called, but yes, it was much better to go for a walk this time.
Dear @scottshots,
I hope this message finds you in good health. It's difficult for me to share this news with you. Due to unforseen circumstances, I have been evicted from my rented house leaving me in a dilemma.
Searching for a new place would cost me about $400 of which I don't have. As a single parent With two kids abandoned by their father, one a fresh graduate( graduated last December) and the other still in the University, I'm in dire need.
Your generosity and kindness, no matter how small would make a great difference in my life.
With heartfelt gratitude,
