Last Days by the Sea 🌊

With the departure getting closer, time suddenly feels different.
Days don’t stretch anymore — they just slip through your fingers.

We’ve been spending more and more time by the sea, like we’re trying to hold onto it.
Who knows when we’ll see it again like this.

Even the photos I took today feel a bit… quiet. Maybe even a little sad.
But somehow, that makes them more valuable to me.

A Message in the Sand

My son, as always, found himself a stick.
I still don’t understand where this habit comes from — every beach, every time… there’s always a stick involved.

While I was busy shooting, he was writing something in the sand — a message for his mom.

Simple things. But those are the ones that stay.

Less Color, More Feeling

Today I did something unusual — I stripped the colors from the photos.

No bright tones, no tropical overload. Just light, shadows, and mood.

And surprisingly, my wife liked these shots more than the usual colorful ones.
Maybe sometimes less really does say more.

Life Goes On

Nothing around us has changed.

Kites still dancing in the sky.
Fishermen still trying their luck.
The sea — calm, endless, indifferent to our plans.

And me, just walking slowly, taking one shot after another, thinking about the upcoming departure.

Feels Like Home

That’s probably the strangest part.

Thailand stopped feeling like “somewhere else” a long time ago.
It became… normal. Familiar.

We have friends here. привычки. Our own little routines.

And now all of that will have to change again.

But Not Yet

Alright, enough of that mood.

We still have at least 10 days left in this place — and that’s more than enough to make them count.

So here’s the plan:

  • Go to the pool — even if we’re lazy

  • Hit the islands — even if the weather isn’t perfect

  • Try that Chinese restaurant — even if everyone says we won’t like it

Forget the rules.

This is the final stretch.

Let’s make it worth it.

See you by the sea.

Hi!
I was curious myself, so I asked the AI to compare and analyze reviews from real owners, and here's what it said:

⚔️ Bottom Line: Without Rose-Colored Glasses
🟢 Get the Sony 90mm if:
you shoot handheld
focus control is important
you shoot insects/action
you want a "tool" rather than just a piece of glass

👉 it's a more "professional working tool"

🔵 Get the Sigma 105mm if:
you shoot from a tripod
you want maximum sharpness
price is important
you value the "picture" more than convenience

👉 it's about pure image quality

yeah the auto focus on my Sigma [ still a-mount ] isn't really fast but i'm used to manual focus and it still works fine even on the A7IV camera . but sometimes that AF can be really fast and spot on . For me it's all a hobby i just love to take photos.

Yeah, it’s a hobby for me too — it’s pretty unlikely you can make back the money spent on Sony cameras and lenses, they’re just too expensive 😄
I think the most important thing in this business is the photographer, not the equipment!

true but atleast on the sony camera there are a lot of adapters to use old school lenses like Minolta MD Rokkor , Jupiter , Helios etc , the old glass still has it charmes.

I see you're much more knowledgeable about this than I am—I've only been taking photos for a little over a year. I didn't even know you could use lenses from other companies. 😬

there is almost an adapter for every camera mount to be used on the Sony e-mount , not always with AF but for the old school lenses it doesn't really matter they always have that nice bokeh .

you can find a lot of those adapters in the stores or on ebay.

or use a reverse ring to turn old lenses in to macro lenses like i did with this photo on the Sony A6000 withe a reversed Minolta MD rokkor 28mm lens .

Thank you all it takes is practice , make lots of mistakes and learn from them .

i started with photography when i was 6 - 10 years old , with my Agfa matic 100 https://camera-wiki.org/wiki/Agfamatic_100
back in +/- 1972 - 1975

Wow – what a great experience!
Your advice is greatly appreciated!
I try to read and watch videos on how to take photos, but I forget everything when I'm actually shooting.

it takes time to absorb the knowledge and use it correctly , don't force yourself to hard ,give your self the time to adjust .

Here's my flash - but I don't really understand how it all works together (but I haven't really tried it yet)

basicly what i have done is cut a square out of a pringles packing so that the light can drop down in front of the lens

Today I took macro photos, and when I got home I noticed they weren't sharp, so I'm trying to figure out what I forgot to turn on. Or maybe my hands were just shaking.

(Edited)

your camera is the A7iv ? it has stabilasation , but often wind is the problem depends on the subject , also you might want to try and see what you shutterspeed was if it's below 1/80 it's easy to get movement in your photo if you don't have steady hands .

For most macro photography i also use a flash unit i use the Godox V1s or my older Godox tt685 with diffuser all depends on lens i use and subject .

Yeah, I just figured it out — my shutter speed was 1/100. I should’ve set at least 1/200.

It was all because of rushing — we were passing by a tree with some really unusual fruits, and I wanted to shoot it, but my wife was hurrying to a meeting. I quickly swapped the lens, and the first shots looked fine in the viewfinder (I didn’t even really check).

No big deal though — I’ll go back there tomorrow and reshoot. I actually want to make a post about that tree and its strange fruits.

By the way, I see you’re using a DIY reflector. I’ve been running around trying to find something similar for macro in stores, but there’s nothing like that in Thailand. I also have a Sony flash, but I haven’t used it because I don’t have a proper diffuser/reflector for it. So all my macro shots are in natural sunlight for now.

Do you use both the flash and the ring at the same time?

i only use the ring on that Laowa lens it's 2.5-5x magnification or what they call ultra macro .
but sometimes it also creates crazy reflections on the subjects :

or even here :

Thanks for the kind comment — yeah, my little assistant helps me a lot, and for that I treat him to ice cream! 😄
