Taken in Pinar del Río, the city I live in, the photographs in the series I bring to show you are concentrate on the subject of people in their everyday life. I make clear that when I discuss activity, I mean not only labor but also amusement and diversion as forms of human behavior.

Tomadas en Pinar del Río, la ciudad donde vivo, las fotografías de la serie que les presento se centran en la vida cotidiana de las personas. Aclaro que, cuando hablo de actividad, no me refiero solo al trabajo, sino también al entretenimiento y la diversión como formas de comportamiento humano.

In our country, dominoes is one of the favorite forms of distraction. Many people who enjoy this game take it very seriously and even consider it a sport. A cold beer makes this moment even more enjoyable.

En nuestro país, el dominó es una de las formas de distracción preferidas. Muchas personas que disfrutan de este juego lo toman muy en serio y lo llegan a considerar como un deporte. Una cerveza bien fría hace que este momento sea aún más placentero.

01- Domino / Dominó

Some folks just want to take some leisure time to mix it up a bit, like Juan Pablo who likes to hang out at the local bar with his friends, and enjoy a cold drink. I'm publishing both the color and black and white versions of the same photo and I'd love to know which one you prefer.

Hay gente que simplemente quiere tomarse un tiempo libre para divertirse un poco, como Juan Pablo, a quien le gusta pasar el rato en el bar del barrio con sus amigos y disfrutar de una bebida fría. Publico la versión en color y en blanco y negro de la misma foto, y me encantaría saber cuál prefieren.

And there are those who prefer a less informal form of entertainment, such as a good game of chess with a friend. I want to tell you that street chess is a very popular sport in my city, and in any neighborhood you can find people with a board.

Y los hay que prefieren otra forma de entretenimiento menos informal, como disputar una buena partida de ajedrez con algún amigo. Quiero decirte que el ajedsrez callejero es una manifestación deportiva muy popular en mi ciudad y en cualquier barrio puedes encontrar personas con un tablero de por medio.

03- Chess / Ajedrez

Well, leisure and entertainment aside, enough already 😁, the following photos are of people at work. I wanted to start with this one of two workers performing maintenance on the lighting and power lines. These workers perform a very valuable task for the community, as they are always present when power is interrupted due to storms or other unforeseen events.

Bueno, dejando a un lado el ocio y el entretenimiento, que ya fue suficiente 😁, las siguientes fotos son de personas en funciones de trabajo. Quise empezar con esta de dos trabajadores en funciones de mantenimiento a las luminarias y las lineas eléctricas. Estos trabajadores hacen uan tarea muy valiosa para la comunidad, pues siempre están presenetes cuando hay interrupciones del servicio debido a tormentas u otros imprevistos.

04- Working at heights / Trabajando en las alturas

Sometimes you discover expressions in people that speak for themselves, as is the case with this woman. Her body language indicated that sales hadn't been very good up until that time of the morning. You can find vendors selling all kinds of food in any neighborhood; that's very common in Pinar del Río.

A veces descubres expresiones en las personas que hablan por si solas, como es el caso de esta mujer. Su lenguaje corporal indicaba que las ventas no habían sido muy buenas hasta esa hora de la mañana. En cualquier barrio puedes encontrar vendedores de productos alimenticios de todo tipo, eso es algo muy común en Pinar del Río.

05- Pizza seller / Vendedora de pizzas

The mirror seller is quite a character in the city. He usually crosses the park in the mornings on his way to La Colosal, the store where he has his point of sale. I don't know if this will be a very profitable business, but I can assure you that he does it very seriously and systematically.

El vendedor de espejos es todo un personaje en la ciudad. Acostumbtra a atravesar el parque por las mañanas cuando se dirije hacia La Colosal, la tienda donde tiene su punto de venta. No se si este será un negocio muy rentable, lo que si puedo asegurarte es que el lo hace con mucha seriedad y sistematicidad.

06- Mirror seller / Vendedor de espejos

In conclusion, human activity allows for infinite possibilities and scenarios for street photography, since everyone behaves differently and different expresions and motivations. Even if the same surroundings appear in some photos, there will be a different situation every time.
