A few days ago the national power system went down, which meant we would be without electricity for an indefinite time (in this case it didn’t last more than 24 hours), which also meant we had to get creative to cook. We had run out of charcoal at home, so (days before) I came up with the idea of making charcoal from sticks I would find along the way. On the walk I found Spring Flurries, and then when I got home with maybe 4 or 5 pounds of sticks I wanted to try to light a fire. It’s not common for me to do that at home; I thought it would be very difficult, but with dry leaves and by placing small twigs first and then adding the larger ones I managed to get a steady, long-lasting fire with which I heated water for my mother and myself and warmed the spaghetti. It was one of the most fun activities despite the smoke and one of the most beautiful. While I was taking out my camera and trying to photograph the flames, a cat resting on the neighbor’s tiled roof caught my attention; that creature, uninterested in my existence, noticed the sound of the camera and went off to find a quieter place with fewer camera-bearing tenants.

Hace unos días se cayó el sistema eléctrico nacional, lo que significó que estaríamos privados de la luz por un tiempo indefinido (en este caso no resultó mayor a 24h) lo que también significaba que había que ingeniárselas para cocinar. El carbón en casa se había acabado así que (días antes) se me ocurrió la idea de hacer carbón vegetal con palos que encontrará por el camino. En la caminata encontré Copos de Primavera, y luego al llegar a casa con tal vez 4 o 5 libras de palos quise intentar encender el fuego, no es común que yo lo haga en la casa, pensé que era muy difícil pero con hojas secas y poniendo palitos pequeños y luego agregando los más grande logré un fuego estable y duradero con el calenté agua para mi y mi mamá y logré calentar los Spaguetis. Fue una actividad de los más divertida a pesar del humo y de lo más hermosa. En lo que sacaba mi cámara e intentaba fotografiar las flamas, un felino descansando en el techo de teja del vecino llamo mi atención, aquel desinteresado de mi existencia notó el ruido de la cámara y se dispuso a buscar otro lugar más tranquilo con menos inquilinos con cámara.
