Let’s go and have a look at the river.

At night when it’s quiet, we can hear tons of water rushing by in the river.

After some heavy recent rains, the one good thing was that we had no more floods in this area.

When we moved into the area 7 years ago, the floods caused some serious damages, for instance, a school was washed away, and general mayhem occurred in the low-lying areas. So, a plan had to be made to tame the river during the heavy water downflow from the mountains. A contractor was appointed to rehabilitate the river, as over the years it became uncontrolled. Now let me tell you that the contractor is a specialist, as I have been watching the progress, and ever so slowly things started to change, especially in the low-lying areas. The river was widened, and tons of river rocks were transferred by truck loads to deposit the stones on the riverbeds along the length of the river in the bad areas. Selah, as it seems that the stones and the with slowed the rushing waters down.

Some fairy rain came down, as you can see on the car's windscreen.

And here was the river.

Some work is still in progress here.

An Egyptian goose was swimming across the river.

As the goose reached the other side, I waited for some expected action.

Ah! And there it was, as I knew that birds will flap their wings after a swim to get the water off. Similar to us as humans using towels, after a shower or a bath. Lol.

Finally, here above was a great bonus, we walked around next to a bridge, and we saw many of these small acorns on the ground under the trees. So, we picked some up, and I think that you know what we would do with the nuts. If you don't know, then I will show you in another post what we did with it.

So, as I said, the river is now controlled, as the widening of the river and the depositing of stones on the bed was very effective to break the force of the water. You have seen some sights in the post, that show that there are still some heaps of stones to be shifted, and I think that the work will continue and be completed, maybe at the end of this year, or next year. In the meantime, the wildlife also likes the changes, as before the birds could not swim across the river after some heavy rains. The water flow was too strong for them, and it might have washed them down to the ocean. It is known that when the bird’s wings are wet, then they struggle to fly, but I think it must be fun to slide down on the river to the sea. It is a distance, though, as our stretch is 6km from the mountains and 6km lower down to the sea. So, if the birds went into the water close to the mountains, then they would have a 12 km long slide. Maybe I will drop into the river with a canoe to catch a shortcut from our house to the sea. Lol.

Such is life.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

Beautiful scenery, the swans look very happy swimming there. The river is very shallow, nice to play in the water.

Thank you and the great thing is that the river was tamed, to prevent flooding!

The photographs are so lovely. I'd like to drop a canoe into the river myself. It sounds fun.
