Let me show you a coffee shop in Montagu.

This limousine was parked next to the entrance of the coffee shop. Its engine is a one horsepower, and it runs on the released gas from its engine's stomach winds.

Montagu is not only famous for its hot water pools, mountains and wildlife, but also for its history. There are coffee shops and restaurants in the main road, and I will show you one that we visited in here. Whenever we visit a town for the first time, the wife is off to the Info Center to collect pamphlets related to the area. We then use the information in the pamphlets to plan our outings for every day.

So, come and let us step inside to look around.

Oh yeah, some real farm style furniture all over the place.

During winter, the table at the front of the fireplace is removed, and then a warm fire flows through the place.

This is the reception counter for orders and payments.

Some packets of sweet things for your stomach when you leave.

Have you noticed the floor? A screed of apricot pips, mixed with cement was placed to cover the floor.

This wooden alcove is the entrance to the orchard on the farm.

We plucked a few apricots and they were sweeter than sweet.

Wonderful what one can find on these outings, as there are always new things to see. The town is loaded with historical houses, built in the 1800s, that were kept in an excellent condition over the years. A bad flood in 1981 damaged many houses, but the communities jumped in to restore each house to its former glory. There are also two houses that were declared as museums, the one is called Joubert House and the other is called The Mission Church.
I will do a post on each of the two museums.

Similar to where we live, there are farms all around the town, some focus on vineyards, others focus on citrus, and there is a variety of other products produced by the farms. The famous Capedry fruit business is also located in Montagu, and they supply all over the country and also internationally.
We also popped in there. They pack dried fruits and nuts for distribution.
We'd love to visit this town again sometime as there is lots more to see.
Such is life.

I hope you enjoyed the story and the pictures.

Montagu is full of surprises, that limousine must belong to a VIP :)
People can be so creative, I just love how they used the apricot pips for the floor, and what a treat to eat them straight from the tree!

Hahaha, you are funny milady. No modern VIP will come within a mile of it !LOL
Indeed we loved to see how they left some sections of the floor open to see the apricot pips. They planted those apricots trees closer to the shop, so that the clients could pluck and eat some. We laughed at a young boy pulling his face as he bit into an unripe one.

Interesting antique furniture. Is it probably impossible to repair the floor? Otherwise, you might stumble.

Oh yes, classics that were handmade. There is nothing wrong with the floor, as it is all level, and they left the patches open so that people could see that the floor was done with apricot pips.

I bet that you will not be sorry, as there are a few more of those old restaurants in the town. We plan to also visit the other tree surrounding towns as we now have done two already.
Peace, tranquility and friendliness imbibe such places, and all old school !LOLZ

We usually go down to Danabay because the Betty's parents has a house there and not paying rent on a vacation can really save a lot of money right... but there's so much more to see in this country than just danabay mosslebay area..

2024's vacation has to be a little different. This year I'm going to be pulling more to the side of Knysna,I really want to visit the elephant sanctuary that side again! Epic stuff!

Great that you make a great saving on the rental issue, as nowadays it has become very expensive.
You can use the house as a base, as Knysna is not far from Mosselbay.

I used to be in the army in the 70s and was stationed in Oudtshoorn. So, on off weekends we often went to the ATKV beach at mosselbay. We also visited the other towns such as plett, pe, and one long weekend we even went to durbs. Basically, we traveled all over the area !LOLZ

Using Danabay as a base of operations is exactly the plan I have in mind😀 then sleeping over at some place for a night or three doesnt do as much damage as it would if opposed to staying there for three weekz right 😅

Yep! That's the best way to do things. Strange how life works, as in my younger days I used to enjoy the company shutting down on the 15th of Dec. and opening again on the 15th of Jan.
But nowadays 4 nights is my max. And you are right, as it is so much easier on the pocket !LOL

I encountered one of our black squirrels this morning. I got as close as I could without scaring it, but the phone camera has limitations.

Wow! You actually got a black squirrel on camera. So great to see and I never doubted you. !LOL
Whereabouts in the UK are you, as I want to tell my daughter that there are also black squirrels in the UK.
I wonder why the English Governer of the Cape province at the time only imported the gray squirrels and not the black ones as well?

I am near Letchworth, which is well known for the blacks. They are some sort of local mascot.

We had another power cut last night, as she calls me every Sunday evening, but she sent me a message that she will call tonight and then I will tell her about Letchworth. Thank you for the link and I will send it to her after our chat.
