A photographic walk

(Edited)

Wednesday 28 August, 20:11. Havana. Cuba.

This is a selection of 395 images of a walk. It is not the whole walk, but a part of it. The challenge now is to select the right images so that, in principle, you will have a good time with me, something I would really like to do.

image.png

My words also appear as the threads of the story and seek to convey something that might be of use to you; an idea that might make you think because it resonates with this moment in your life, or some in the past.

You won't see anything from the future, unless you have superpowers.

I'm finding the selection of images quite complicated. I'd like you to give me a hand, but you see, I'm alone here, listening to music and thinking at times about the person I was, the person I am now and how much I've enjoyed this journey.

Now I'm going to select images and weave words. Give me your hand, let me take you through one of those portals I usually use to travel through time, would you like to? 😉

Ok.

_ALC5604.JPG

Place: Harbour Avenue. Old Havana.
I am the photographer for a group of bartenders from Portugal and other parts of the world who came to visit, among many other places, the Museum of Rum.

I told you at the beginning that it is part of the tour. We moved from the Vedado neighbourhood in that bus. From now on, it's walking and for me it will be more complicated because I have to document everything. It will also be a lot of fun, I can assure you.

_ALC5607.JPG

The sun is very strong. In the background you can admire the golden domes of the Russian Orthodox Church, a building that stands out a lot in that area.

_ALC5601.JPG

Time flies while I work. I try to capture their joy and how they marvel at what is new. Havana is very picturesque for visitors.

_ALC5610.JPG

The inner courtyard of that big house has a vibrant energy, there are a lot of people there and I have to keep an eye on my group of bartenders.

_ALC5614.JPG

We are welcomed with a cocktail.

_ALC5617.JPG

And others take the opportunity to get kisses 😁 - I have to say that the photographer struggles to stay away from alcohol.

_ALC5647.JPG

They took pictures of me too, I'm pretty sure.

_ALC5620.JPG

Everyone gets their cocktail and we set off to visit the exhibition.

_ALC5651.JPG

Up the stairs we come into contact with the first device. It is for distilling rum.

_ALC5661.JPG

Wait, it's difficult to capture everything and I have to wait for everybody to pass so I can get another angle from the top. And then, you know, run, because I can't miss any of this visit.

_ALC5664.JPG

Oh, I don't see them... where did they go?

_ALC5666.JPG

The photographer gets over the first fright but her senses are very sharpened. She hears a sound coming from a dark room. 😅

_ALC5668.JPG _ALC5675.JPG _ALC5677.JPG

An audio-visual presentation on the history of rum is offered and everyone is very attentive. Sugar cane is, of course, central to its production.

_ALC5684.JPG

In the gallery of the cane, we can see the fresh imprint of the kisses he received and well, he didn't miss the cocktail either. He is holding it in his hand.

🤣

_ALC5690.JPG

Sugar cane molasses will be something visitors will be able to taste. Let's wait and see if the photographer gets a good picture of it.

_ALC5702.JPG

Those windows are really annoying... Use the Flash!

_ALC5707.JPG

We are still grappling with the problem of lighting. Now there is a lack of light. And you should also know that a time jump has a certain danger of ghosts sneaking in, they are curious and want to accompany us on the journey.

_ALC5713.JPG

It is a model of a sugar mill. I think it is very good and I looked for height to be able to capture the whole scene. I took this picture at very low speed so some people are moving and others are not.

_ALC5714.JPG _ALC5715.JPG

And in these two pictures you can see the difference if you use flash, which one do you prefer? I try to use it as little as possible.

_ALC5759.JPG

Believe me this photo is difficult. And everything happens very fast.

The idea is to show the whole process of making rum and everything that goes into it. This room shows a cellar full of barrels to age the rum.

_ALC5760.JPG

_ALC5765.JPG

_ALC5767.JPG

On this page there is a virtual tour... to give you an idea of the time we spent in there.

It's time to taste the star product of the moment, and to pair it with the famous Habano cigar.

This table will soon be a total mess...

_ALC5790.JPG

_ALC5803.JPG

Someone tells me to drink (BEBA). 🙁

_ALC5821.JPG

😁

Someone tells me to smoke 😣

_ALC5827.JPG

_ALC5830.JPG

Honestly, I don't like to be inside a room where everyone smokes. I demand compensations hahahaha....

_ALC5840.JPG

I like this picture.

_ALC5867.JPG

_ALC5880.JPG

I don't remember this part of the tasting if you had to put smoke inside the cup... someone enlighten me. I am not an expert in these matters.

_ALC5896.JPG

I'm feeling a bit dizzy. Basically this is the route... and the photographer has been drinking and smoking indirectly.

_ALC5911.JPG

When this was over, the route still had some way to go. We had to go to the Cathedral square, to the Bodeguita del Medio bar, to the Floridita... and I had to be ‘en talla como la gente de Playa’, in other words, ready.

_ALC6012.JPG

_ALC6002.JPG

_ALC6037.JPG

_ALC6057.JPG

It's a boozy ride. Remember, drink in moderation... hahaha... and what you don't know that in the evening I had to continue with them. Documenting all their visits.

Of course we had lunch... so much drinking without eating would not have been possible to bear.

_ALC5985.JPG

How many photos have I edited?

I don't even know... I only know that I've been writing this post and selecting photos for hours.

_ALC5987.JPG
A photo of the boys leaving the Cathedral. Let's continue with the subject at hand...

And I forgot to share this image with you. It is quite normal to see these horse-drawn carriages in the city, as they are a tourist attraction. I'm not in favour of this... 😟

_ALC5929.JPG

It's just that this country is so hot, the sun is so strong.... Well, what were we doing... oh yes, we were going to the Floridita bar, the birthplace of the Daiquiri.

_ALC6069.JPG

This was Ernest Hemingway's favourite bar.

_ALC6074.JPG

And I think they were really enjoying this experience.

_ALC6097.JPG

_ALC6080.JPG

This is what that stretch of the walk was like. A very busy day. Of course there were 395 photos... I feel that there may have been many more that deserved to be shared and remained in the eternal sleep of my archive.

(It's a job I like to do, documenting...) Btw, it's 0:26 the next day.I'm going to sleep, and I hope you enjoyed going with me on this time jump into the past.

🥂

Bueno, sí, la verdad es que al viajar al pasado extrañé caminar por La Habana. Es que últimamente solo voy en bici. 😂

Rum? I see many familiar tanks and barrels, but no beer whatsoever! How come? :P

There is nothing left of that nani... 🥴😄 I will have to travel back in time again to see if I can find her.
But first I have to find where the beer tasting will take place.

My drink, back in the day when that meant something more than water, used to be rum. But I don't know that I've ever had Cuban rum...

Well if you're already on the water-only thing, you've already missed out on the Cuban rum. You must not have done it because you would remember it, LOL.

I know most rums taste nothing like the American interpretation... but that's admittedly what I used to drink. Sailor. You probably don't even have Sailor Jerry down there, that would be blasphemous.

Nah @nanixxx I envy you that's not a job, that is a hobby for which you get paid. Wish I could get a job photographing a pub crawl or a visit to a museum of rum. mind you if I was there my shots would be blurred and shakey lol

It was several days, going out with them from morning to evening. Yes, I like that job. I hope to get one like that soon. 🙂

A driver can't drink... but I'll tell you a secret. I had a drink or two. 😉

Rum and cigars, how very Cuban! And as they say, it's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it 😉

Havana is very picturesque for visitors.

I have to agree with you there

Hopefully one day you will be able to visit us. There will be a good rum and a Habano cigar waiting for you.

A smile appeared on my face when I read the following:

I'm alone here, listening to music and thinking at times about the person I was, the person I am now and how much I've enjoyed this journey.

And something resonated in me. It certainly has been a great ride, and maybe it will surprise you, but the photo I liked the most is the one of the stills.

They are such a fitting metaphor for travel: impurities are removed to arrive at the “quintessence”, the spirit.

A big hug and thank you very much for being here.

And in these two pictures you can see the difference if you use flash, which one do you prefer?

In this case, I prefer the first one, without the flash

Mona Lisa was watching over that lunch haha

Aquí se ha producido un edit 😁

If we take into consideration my origins, I would read from right to left 😂
Pero la que me gusta es la Mona Lisa lol. Y la foto que es con más vida - amarilla y con algunas ghost gente, entonces sin flash.

😄 Por eso te pregunté por el origen... jajaja... me haces reír. Gracias. Sí, sin flash. Ya sé que te gusta la Mona. 😁

Some great selected photos Amiga. You really captured the moments with these. For a moment I thought maybe we were going to see drunk crazy pictures on the photographers behalf 😂 However your a good one I don't know if we would have noticed your skills slip...

I could please you with one, but leaving a picture of the ‘happy’ photographer in blockchain... I don't know, I think it's risky. 😅

Thank you. ;)

You finished exhausted, huh?

Even though many say it's not a job, it's a tremendous amount of work.

Btw, you achieved amazing quality in the images; that place is hard to photograph. I don’t like the tobacco part either, but I do enjoy the visit to Floridita 🤫😉 I think that’s a classic tour these days.

PS:You gave me an idea for us.

Really exhausting, although in this kind of work you always learn, you meet people, and I also have to tell you that I laughed a lot.
I'm glad my post gave you an idea!

What a spectacular tour, the photos are beautiful, when you ask which of the two photos I prefer, I'll tell you the left one because the right one looks like a factory in blackout 🤭. I've been wanting to visit the rum museum for a long time, I didn't imagine it so majestic and elegant, I have to visit it. I had an experience of attending a pairing of cigars and rum, it was very interesting but I didn't smoke ☺️ loved this post @nanixxx 🤩🤗

¡Morí! 😂

I don't know if that museum has changed at all, remember that here I travelled back in time. Go. Let me know. 😉

🤣🤣... Ok According to my experience the place should be neither the same nor better🤭 I would like to be wrong this time, I'll let you know ☺️
