Let’s explore beautiful BRIVE LA GAILLARDE ~ in FRANCE 🇫🇷 ~ a place dating back to the 1st century.

IMG_9668.jpeg

Let’s explore together with me today the beautiful city: BRIVE-LA-GAILLARDE ~ in FRANCE 🇫🇷
It is located in the department of Corrèze in the center/ south of France.
I visited this beautiful medieval city last month while driving north 3500km. It was a rainy day on that Sunday in early June. Nothing was really open so we had the city centre for us alone… (almost haha - the way I like it)

Little health update; I am not recovered yet and taking it still very slowly… as I need my health to be ok-ish again. Seems like my body is still fighting me in many ways.

Back to exploring this city in la belle France.
More information about Brive you find on Wikipedia here: Brive-la-Gaillarde and here: Brive tourisme!

With this post I’m joining in at the Wednesday Walk #challenge. That is hosted by @tattoodjay every week on Wednesday.
‼️Have a look: Here in the Wednesday Walk Community if you want to join in!… the community is run by @tattoodjay
Look at his last #Wednesdaywalk post. It will tell you also the rules of joining in at the Wednesday walk posts 😁 come join us!

Today’s photographic selection will be of 39 PHOTOGRAPHS
Date : 1 June 2025
The Photographs in this post are taken with my iPhone.
I will follow the time stamps on them. So it looks like you are experiencing my adventures on this walk to #discover everything what I saw, like the little #details seen through my eyes.

Location of the city of Brive la Gaillarde we find on the following screenshot of Google Maps :
IMG_6478.jpeg

After the person left with the umbrella I had a better change of capturing the sign of BRIVE. At this point it only drizzled a little bit.
IMG_9671.jpeg

The architecture of this old church is beautiful, a shame it was mostly covered in scaffolding. Good though they are restoring it. Here a small detail of the side of the church…
The first mention of a church there was in the 5th century. See for more information here: Collégiale Saint-Martin de Brive-la-Gaillarde.
IMG_9672.jpeg

Wandering through the small streets of Brive do look up. As you can find magnificent stone carvings higher up the building’s facades.
IMG_9673.jpeg

We reached a little square. It is beautiful even on a grey day.
IMG_9677.jpeg

A beautiful fountain ⛲️
IMG_9678.jpeg

We just wander and explore all the small streets and alleyways in the historical centre of the city.
IMG_9679.jpeg

Some houses are hidden and when you see the architecture of them you look better.
IMG_9681.jpeg

Wandering to the main ring street around the old centre we see even there some old architectural buildings, like this one. Beautiful.
IMG_9683.jpeg

Some spring flowers had to be captured of course to brighten up this rainy day.
IMG_9684.jpeg

Walking back into the centre our view. So lovely to be able to wander and not see a soul around.
IMG_9685.jpeg

This thin building caught my eye. Just look at the statues.
IMG_9688.jpeg

Let me show you closer by… holding up the balcony above.
IMG_9689.jpeg

I also found some old school murals on the side of some buildings. More streetart murals in a separate post one day.
IMG_9690.jpeg

Another fountain on the side of this large building.
IMG_9691.jpeg

Looking to the right I see some gnomes… do you?
IMG_9693.jpeg

Ok.. I zoom in a bit for you. Look what a cute little bunch on the corner of this shop.
IMG_9694.jpeg

More beautiful streets… imagine wandering around in the hustle and bustle during the hight of the summer. It will be lovely for tourists.
IMG_9696.jpeg

I even found a classic mini parked on one of the streets.
I used to have 4 classic mini’s from various build dates. Not at the same time though but throughout my adult life.
IMG_9711.jpeg

Some more magnificent stone carvings.
IMG_9712.jpeg

And another church in the city.
IMG_9713.jpeg

As we wander slowly back to our van… we see more stunning architecture all around us.
IMG_9714.jpeg

Stunning buildings. Wow… so well preserved.
IMG_9715.jpeg

We find a museum and walk through the open gate to check out the buildings and some details.

More information about it you find here: Labenche museum!
It states;

The Hôtel Labenche was built around the middle of the 16th century, during the Renaissance, by a nobleman with local responsibilities granted by the King in terms of justice. His title "De la Labenche" gave its name to the building and thus, 5 centuries later, to the eponymous museum.

A little tree lined alley guides you towards a courtyard.
IMG_9716.jpeg

The arches…
IMG_9717.jpeg

The details all around. Look slowly and take it all in.
IMG_9719.jpeg

The figures above the windows.
IMG_9720.jpeg

I show you a few close ups… not all though. You have to explore them yourself one day… maybe… hehe
IMG_9722.jpeg

IMG_9723.jpeg

Walking towards the entrance gate again I see this lioness and her cub.
IMG_9724.jpeg

So cute.
IMG_9725.jpeg

It dates from 1934 as one can read.
IMG_9726.jpeg

Next to the sculpture we see this information sign about the buildings.
IMG_9727.jpeg

We wander further , are you still with me? Yes, great. I appreciate it. Let’s wander through this park.
IMG_9728.jpeg

I suddenly see something sticking out high above the trees, and no… not the buildings.
IMG_9729.jpeg

I meant this tree.
IMG_9730.jpeg

It is carved everywhere, on each branch that is reaching up.
IMG_9731.jpeg

Beautiful, isn’t it. Here a little detail.
IMG_9732.jpeg

And I end our walk together through a part of the city Brive at this beautiful tree.
IMG_9733.jpeg

…and here I say that’s all for today’s post my friends.

Thank you so much. It was a lovely place to visit.
Let’s hope, it was rather painful and traumatic. A lymph node ruptured, didn't even know it was possible. Apparently it is rare. My immune system is attacking my body at the moment. (I do have an autoimmune disease that doesn’t help either, so my system is always very very weak)
It will be fine soon again.
Happy to join, always.
Have a lovely day @tattoodjay !PIZZA

Cool Post, we voted it, but please, even if we know someone advised you to... Don't use #FR if the post is not in french language, it's a common mistake, but it's really a language tag 😉.

Enjoy the rest of your trip !!

Thank you so much, that’s appreciated. Yes, someone did advise on my last french related post, to post my posts from France with the tag.
I do speak 6 languages, just never include another language than English (which is only my 4th language in learning order) I was born in France btw does that help… 😉
Thank you for the explanation. It helps learning all those small details.

Have a fantastic evening @itharagaian 😊

Waar ga je naartoe ??

Haha klopt.

You would love the old centre. Imagine lots of little streets coming from each direction/the side all gathering in a middle point. So many alleyways to explore.
A lovely place.
Have a nice day!

In a tour like this I've always wondered what life is like living here from the 1800s after the French Revolution on. The hallmarks of French culture and architecture surviving revolutions, economic upheavals and world wars. Another fascinating long walk.

I hope you make a full recovery very soon, @littlebee4. Those carved trees are captivating, someone knew exactly what to do with those seemingly lifeless trunks. They breathed new life into them.

It’s a beautiful city... the lioness with her cub in an urn...surely it holds some kind of symbolism 🤔 or perhaps it's simply meant for protection.

Greetings!

Hope you will recover fully soon :)

Thank you for this tour through your photos. It's always fascinating to see ancient architecture with its details, arches, etc. The walk in the park is refreshing, and the carvings on the tree, wow!

Nice, I worked in Corréze 30 years ago, I am french. But I worked in the hight part of the country, not in Brive. The countrie is also fantastic. Good souvenir!

Really that is nice. You must know the region very well then. I will be back there next month for a few days on our long road trip 3000km south.
I was born in France, my parents left it when I was only 2 years old. A shame I didn’t grow up in it. So far I lived in 8 countries what did give me some interesting adventures and different cultures to learn.
Nice to meet you @terresco. Merci beaucoup.
