Foggy Adventures in the Big City
Lately, a thick heavy fog has been rolling off the bay, snaking its misty tendrils through the downtown core and surrounding environs. It usually begins in the hours before dawn, and then envelops the city in its cool embrace. Maybe I should go out there and take a few shots, I think to myself one morning, but the idea of going out into the cold darkness of that early hour (6 AM) was not appetizing. So, I was just content to stay in my warm place. But this left me wondering about all the magnificent scenes I was likely missing out on. Oh well, I thought. Last thing I needed was to get mugged (or worse) just because I was foolish enough to go chase some fog.
This morning, I got up later than usual at 7 AM. Outside, it was still a bit dark, but the diffused light of twilight was beginning to lighten up the day. As I was looking out the window, I noticed that the fog was seeping into the city. That nagging feeling came over me. You’re missing out on fog goodness!
Darn it!
I sprang into manic action. Grabbed some clothes. Took a quick shower. Put on said clothes. Grabbed some gear. Keys. Wallet. Jacket. Out the door.

I looked up and down the street, trying to visualize what area would be interesting to photograph in these conditions. I couldn’t think straight. It was cold. With no food or coffee in my system, I was running on pure adrenaline.
Maybe some buildings would be nice to photograph, I thought walking towards the downtown core. Sometimes the fog doesn't reach as far, however, so I turned back towards the water.

I'd walk up and down the street, then turn back again. As I suspected, the fog was thicker near the water, where it had blanketed the bay.
In the fog, I could hear a murder of crows across the water. Haunting in the haze.

I was running on fumes, so I began to make my way back towards the city. I needed to find a coffee shop and put some caffeine in my system. Then I thought about my hive friends and wondered, what would they have me do? Would they want me to stop and go have something to eat, so my body didn't have to cannibalize itself OR would they want me to take the damn pictures already? Onwards, I pressed.

With a temperature hovering around 3 deg C (37.4 F), and the cool mist in the air, I finally ran out of steam. I wanted to keep going as I could see some unreal scenes further out into the open ocean. Alas, the sight of my favorite purveyor of coffee beckoned me, and I ended my fog chase.
The images turned out alright. I wish it would have been darker outside to get better light effects. A thicker fog would've been nice too. Maybe I should get one of those portable fog machines and just put it in front of the camera, but I'm getting ahead of myself.
At home, I realized that in my rush out the door, I had put my shirt on backwards, and that was fitting end to that little piece of impulsive madness.
Thank you for visiting.

Beautiful adventure view 😍
Thank you!
What a beautiful picture your friend showed.
Thank you! It was very interesting walking around in the fog.
You're welcome friends. Hope you always have a nice day. How are you today.
I am great, thank you. I hope you are too!
Super cool! The images look somewhat post-apocalyptic, it reminds me of those movies where there are almost no humans anymore, or with some editing a place for zombies, aliens, ghosts, robots, lol.
good pictures! the shirt gave you luck ahahaa and you didn't miss them😉
Haha. There is a spooky atmosphere with the fog. Vancouver has been the set of several apocalyptic movies, so aliens and zombies fit right in 👽
These photographs are really magnificent, taken at the right moment like the one of the bird, I loved that one and the next one too.
An excellent composition!😍
Thank so much. There were a lot of crows out that day. Crows and fog go well together :)
Ideal for a horror story!
True 👻
Some design... with terror as a theme!
This one is a highlight of the set:

Marvelous!!! I'd love to shoot fog and foggy cityscapes too, sadly, this autumn I witnessed not a single day with a fog... ehehe. After such a walk the only thing you might want is a !PIZZA
I like this one two because the colors go nicely with the fog. Thank you!
