ROTATE THE CONE PART 1

Endlich hatte ich wieder Zeit und Kraft um ein paar Light Painting Bilder aufzunehmen. In den letzten Wochen hatte ich viel mit der Fertigstellung meiner Bücher zu tun. Den Aufwand dafür hatte ich unterschätzt. Aber sei es drum, endlich gibt es sie zu kaufen. Dazu weiter unten mehr.

Vor einigen Wochen war ich im Schlosspark Kaarz in Mecklenburg unterwegs. Neben vielen weiteren beeindruckenden Bäumen wachsen dort mehrere Mammutbäume. Neben dem Schloss steht ein ca. 70 Meter hoher Mammutbaum, welcher im Jahr 1873 gepflanzt wurde. Von diesem Baum sammelte ich einige Zapfen ein. Diese sind das Objekt der Camera Rotation Bilder in diesem Beitrag.

I finally had the time and energy to take a few light painting pictures again. Over the last few weeks I've been busy finalising my books. I had underestimated the effort involved. But anyway, they are finally available to buy. More on that below.

A few weeks ago, I was out and about in Kaarz Castle Park in Mecklenburg. Amongst many other impressive trees, several sequoias grow there. Next to the castle is a redwood tree that is around 70 metres tall and was planted in 1873. I collected a few cones from this tree. These are the subject of the camera rotation pictures in this post.

Ich platzierte einen der Zapfen und beleuchtete ihn mit verschiedenen Taschenlampen. Zum Einsatz kamen mehrere Convoy S2+ mit farbigen LEDs, eine Lumintop Tool AA und eine Emisar D4V2. Ich stellte das Stativ mit dem Camera Rotation Tool auf, befestigte die Kamera mit dem Tokina 100 mm Makro-Objektiv auf dem Camera Rotation Tool und richtete die Kamera dann auf den Zapfen aus. Nach den ersten Versuchen stellte ich fest, dass das Camera Rotation Tool verstellt war. Die Rotation war nicht in der Bildmitte. Also begann ich erst einmal das Tool notdürftig wieder zu justieren. Irgendwas ist ja immer. 🙄

I placed one of the cones and illuminated it with various torches. I used several Convoy S2+ with coloured LEDs, a Lumintop Tool AA and an Emisar D4V2. I set up the tripod with the Camera Rotation Tool, attached the camera with the Tokina 100 mm macro lens to the Camera Rotation Tool and then aligned the camera with the cone. After the first few attempts, I realised that the Camera Rotation Tool was misaligned. The rotation was not in the centre of the image. So I started to make a makeshift adjustment of the tool. There's always something wrong. 🙄

Nach etlichen Versuchen wechselte ich auf das Nikkor 17-35/2,8. Mit kürzeren Brennweiten ist die Camera Rotation Fotografie einfacher. Fehler bei der Ausrichtung und Justierung des Camera Rotation Tools verzeiht eine kürzere Brennweite eher. Weil das Objekt nicht sehr groß ist, kam es nur darauf an, dass die Nahstellgrenze des Objektivs gering ist. Im Falle des Nikkors sind das 28 Zentimeter. Somit ist der Zapfen dann groß genug im Bild dargestellt.

After several attempts, I switched to the Nikkor 17-35/2.8. Camera rotation photography is easier with shorter focal lengths. Errors in the alignment and adjustment of the Camera Rotation Tool are more forgiving with a shorter focal length. Because the object is not very large, it was only important that the close-up limit of the lens was low. In the case of the Nikkor, this is 28 centimetres. This means that the cone is large enough in the image.

Einen Besuch im Schlosspark Kaarz kann ich sehr empfehlen. Wer mal in der Nähe ist sollte die Ruhe dort genießen. Da der Park sehr abgelegen ist verirren sich gewöhnlich nicht sehr viele Menschen dort hin.

I can highly recommend a visit to Kaarz Castle Park. If you're ever in the neighbourhood, you should enjoy the peace and quiet there. As the park is very remote, not many people usually go there.

Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.

Schöne Ergebnisse und ich bin beeindruckt wie gut die Bilder aussehen, wo du mit dem Tokina rotiert hast. Bei der Brennweite fast unmöglich, dass es einigermaßen gut aussieht. Deine Versuche sind gelungen. Ich hab dass auch mal versucht, bin aber gescheitert.

Rotation mit 100 mm Brennweite ist echt kein Ponyhof. Ich hab das Ding nach dem zehnten Versuch von der Kamera abgeschraubt und mit 35 mm weitergearbeitet.
