El otro lado de la luz/ The other side of light

In our daily walks, shadows tell stories that the light sometimes chooses not to, and if you pay attention, they gift you images that seem made on purpose.

In the mornings they are long and promising, at midday firm beneath our feet, at dusk they stretch out as if wanting to stay. The shadows are there, faithful companions, but we almost never look at them; they accompany the things we see, without seeing.

They come and go with the light, they lengthen as if they wanted to reach the next block, sometimes they draw things that not even the original object imagined, they shrink, they distort, and sometimes they disappear and reappear suddenly... But always without making a sound. A tiny slug seems to carry a giant seashell on its back.

Everyone carries their own shadow on their back. Some are in more of a hurry than others. Sometimes what we project (our attitude, our weariness, our joy) is the shadow we leave on others.

There are shadows of stationary things, but they still move with the light. The thing is, shadows are up to their usual tricks. 🤭

Has it ever happened to you that you're walking, you look at the ground, and you say, "Wow, what a beautiful shadow"? No. Well, neither had I 🤭 until I started paying attention.

If you occasionally glance down, you'll see the shadows putting on their show, without charging admission 😅👏👏👏

En nuestros paseos cotidianos, las sombras cuentan historias que la luz a veces prefiere no contar, y si prestamos atención, nos regalan imágenes que parecen hechas a propósito. Por las mañanas son largas y prometedoras, al mediodía firmes bajo nuestros pies, al atardecer se estiran como si quisieran quedarse. Las sombras están ahí, fieles compañeras, pero casi nunca las miramos; acompañan lo que vemos, sin que lo veamos. Van y vienen con la luz, se alargan como si quisieran llegar a la siguiente manzana, a veces dibujan cosas que ni siquiera el objeto original imaginó, se encogen, se distorsionan, y a veces desaparecen y reaparecen de repente... Pero siempre sin hacer ruido. Una babosa diminuta parece llevar una concha gigante a cuestas. Todos llevamos nuestra propia sombra a cuestas. Algunos tienen más prisa que otros. A veces lo que proyectamos (nuestra actitud, nuestro cansancio, nuestra alegría) es la sombra que dejamos en los demás. Hay sombras de cosas inmóviles, pero aun así se mueven con la luz. La cuestión es que las sombras siguen haciendo de las suyas. 🤭 ¿Alguna vez te ha pasado que vas caminando, miras al suelo y dices: "¡Guau, qué sombra tan bonita!"? No. Bueno, a mí tampoco 🤭 hasta que empecé a fijarme.
