Going out on my old bicycle along the rural roads around my town, at midday, in temperatures around 36°C and an absolutely scorching sun, isn't something I usually do. However, I've been coming back to these places quite frequently lately, and that's due to some work-related matters, the details of which I'll be sharing in future posts. So I've been forced to travel these roads at times other than my regular exercise walks, which I almost always do very early in the day or, on a few occasions, in the late afternoon. But first, come with me to see some photos, and then I'll tell you more...

Salir a recorrer en mi vieja bicicleta las carreteras rurales alrededor de mi pueblo, a pleno mediodía, con temperaturas de unos 36°C y un sol absolutamente abrasador, no es algo que acostumbro a hacer con frecuencia. Sin embargo, estoy viniendo con mucha frecuencia últimamente a estos lugares y eso tiene que ver con asuntos de trabajo, respecto a los cuales les estaré hablando en futuras publicaciones. Así que me he visto en la obligación de transitar estos caminos en horarios distintos a los des mis caminatas para ejercitarme, las cuales casi siempre hago en horas muy tempranas del día o, algunas pocas veces, al final de la tarde... Pero acompáñenme primero a ver algunas fotos y luego les seguiré contando más...

Obviously, at midday with a fairly clear sky or sometimes dotted with clouds like white cotton, everything here is light and colors... So the landscape changes completely with respect to how it looks in the morning hours when fog usually covers these areas of the valley... In fact, taking photographs with this much light can be somewhat challenging, since the contrasts are frankly dramatic and it is very easy to tend to overexpose the photos too much... But keeping the camera settings within what is necessary to achieve an evaluative -0.3 EV, ends up being more than enough to avoid major problems. So that was more or less what I tried to do...

Obviamente, en horas de un mediodía con un cielo bastante despejado o a veces salpicado de nubes como algodones blancos, todo aquí es luz y colores... Entonces el paisaje cambia totalmente con respecto a como luce en horas de las mañanas cuando usualmente la niebla cubre estas áreas del valle... De hecho, hacer fotografías con esta gran cantidad de luz, puede ser algo desafiante, y es que los contrastes son francamente dramáticos y es muy fácil tender a sobreexponer demasiado las fotos... Pero manteniendo los ajustes de la cámara dentro de lo necesario para lograr una evaluativa de -0.3 EV, termina por ser más que suficiente para evitar problemas mayores. Así que eso fue más o menos lo que procuré hacer...

These are usually solitary and silent places, but at these midday hours the silence is even more perceptible, reaching levels that are even a little frightening and that make you feel like you are much further from the streets of the town than the 4 or 5 kilometers that actually lie between here and the edges of the latter...

Estos son parajes por lo general solitarios y silenciosos, pero en estas horas del mediodía el silencio es aún más perceptible, llegando esta niveles en los que incluso asusta un poco y que hacen tener la sensación de estas mucho más lejos de las calles del pueblo, que los 4 o 5 kilómetros que en realidad hay desde aquí a las márgenes de este ultimo...

The fact that I'm coming here more and more frequently for work doesn't prevent me from bringing my camera and stopping along the way for long periods of time to take these photographs, so surely my next posts will often be related to these rural areas full of grasslands and groves south of my town... And that's a good thing, no doubt!

El hecho de estar viniendo con cada vez más frecuencia aquí por asuntos de trabajo, no me priva en lo absoluto de traer mi cámara y detenerme en el trayecto durante largos períodos de tiempo para hacer estas fotografías, así que seguramente mis próximas publicaciones tendrán en muchos casos relación con estos pedios rurales llenos de pastizales y arboledas al Sur de mi pueblo... ¡Y eso sí que es algo bueno, sin duda!...

A funny anecdote about this: Today my wife, seeing me go out on my old bike at a time when the excessive heat makes most of the townspeople shelter in some cool place; stares at me and says: "Every time I think I've gotten used to your level of insanity, you do something to overcome yourself and I have to start all over again"... 😂 I couldn't help but laugh out loud" and then she said: "Remember to take your cell phone so you can call for help when you fall due to dehydration" 😂... She's so funny!...

Una anécdota graciosa respecto a esto: Hoy mi esposa, al verme salir en mi vieja bicicleta en una hora en la que el excesivo calor hace que la gran mayoría de los habitantes del pueblo esté resguardado en algún lugar fresco; se queda mirándome y me dice: "Cada vez que creo que me he acostumbrado a tu nivel de demencia, haces algo para superarte a ti mismo y tengo que comenzar de nuevo"... 😂 ¡No pude evitar reírme a carcajadas" y luego dijo: "Recuerda llevar tu móvil para que pidas ayuda cuando caigas por deshidratación" 😂... ¡Es tan graciosa ella!...

The appearance of this cat on the road, walking with its lunch in its mouth (an unfortunate lizard) reminded me of the fact that here in our countryside these animals never end up being completely domesticated and can even live totally isolated from humans in some corners of the plantations and farms... And this is something that has always fascinated me by the way...

La aparición en el camino, de este gato caminando con su almuerzo en la boca (una desafortunada lagartija) me hizo recordar el hecho de que aquí en nuestros campos estos animales nunca terminan por domesticarse completamente e incluso pueden vivir totalmente aislados de los humanos en algunos rincones de las plantaciones y granjas... Y esto es algo que siempre me ha fascinado por cierto...
