For the past few years, my way of celebrating the New Year has been to have an early dinner with my family, hug everyone, wish them all the best, and then go to sleep as usual. The rest of my family celebrates the way we do here, which involves much more food, loud music, lots of liquor, and visiting other people's houses and gathering places until after dawn... But I, a bit of a rebel as is my custom, usually wake up early (5:00 AM) on January 1st every year, make my usual coffee, and then leave the house to take pictures as always... And I usually do all this while outside, in the streets, you can still hear the revelry of people who are still celebrating. So, the best thing for me on this day is to quickly leave the town center and lose myself on some rural or mountain road, far from the commotion of the drunks and "overly cheerful" people who swarm the streets until well into the morning. And this is what I did today, when, trying to avoid places with people in the streets, I took the road west, towards the hills that surround the town, and then I immersed myself in the drought-stricken landscape of this January that has barely begun...

Desde hace algunos años, mi manera de celebrar el año nuevo es cenar temprano con mi familia, abrazar a todos, desearles lo mejor y luego irme a dormir como de costumbre. EL resto de mi familia, se dedica a seguir la celebración de la manera como aquí el final del año es celebrado, y eso implica mucha más comida, música a alto volumen, mucho licor y visitar otras casas y lugares de reunión hasta después del amanecer... Pero yo, un poco a contracorriente como es mi costumbre, suelo despertar temprano (5:00 AM) los días 1ro de Enero de cada año, preparar mi acostumbrado café y luego salir de casa a hacer fotografías como siempre... Y todo esto suelo hacerlo mientras afuera, en las calles, aún se escucha la algarabía de las personas que persisten celebrado. Así que lo mejor para mi en este día, es salir rápidamente del casco urbano del pueblo y perderme en algún camino rural o de montaña alejado del alboroto de los borrachos y personas "excesivamente alegres" que pululan en las calles hasta bien entrada la mañana. Y esto fue lo que hice hoy, cuando procurando esquivar los sitios con personas en las calles, tomé el camino al Oeste, hacia las colinas que circulan el pueblo, y entones me sumergí en el paisaje de sequía de este Enero que apenas comienza...

This time I set out on this hike around 7:00 AM, with the sun relatively high on the horizon... In the valley, only a light mist hung over the town and its surroundings, while a bright blue sky, dotted with a few white clouds, provided excellent conditions for photography, as is typical here in January. The colors are vibrant, with clear blues, ochres and yellows dominating the landscape, and lingering greens in the fading foliage... You can play with the sunlight, the path, and even the fine dust that rises in the air when a gentle breeze blows... Despite the sounds of the town, which can still be heard in the distance, the feeling of isolation was enchanting, as always in the early hours here.

Esta vez salí a hacer este recorrido cerca de las 7:00 AM, con el sol relativamente alto en el horizonte... En el valle, apenas una tenue bruma se cernía sobre el pueblo y sus alrededores, mientras un cielo azul brillante, salpicado por algunas nubes blancas, completaban condiciones muy buenas para fotografiar como es esto aquí en Enero. Los colores son sólidos, con azules comprensibles, con ocres y amarillos apoderándose del relieve y algunos verdes en el follaje en plena despedida... Se puede jugar con la luz del sol, con el camino, e incluso con el incipiente polvo que flota en el aire cuando sopla una tenue brisa... A pesar del ruido del pueblo, el cual aún se escucha en la distancia; la sensación de aislamiento era encantadora, como siempre en horas tempranas en este lugar...

These photos are shown in sequence, just as I took them while going up and then down the path. I came here to take photos, of course, but I also came to escape, as much as possible, the noise down there in the village streets... I have nothing against people having fun, but at almost 55 years old, I've learned to distinguish between "decadence" and "fun," and mine is a very complex society, in which, at certain times and dates, what's wrong prevails over what's right...

Estas fotos están mostradas en secuencia, tal como las hice a medida que subía y luego descendía por el camino. Vine aquí a hacer fotos claro, pero también vine para escapar en lo posible del ruido de allá abajo en las calles del pueblo... No tengo nada en contra de que la gente se divierta, pero ya con casi 55 años he aprendido a diferencias la "decadencia" de la "diversión", y la mía es una sociedad muy compleja, en la cual en ciertas fechas y momentos, prima más lo primero que lo segundo...
