Lake Gosau in Austria.

In today’s post, I would like to take you to one of my favorite places in the mountains outside of Poland. I’m talking about Lake Gosau in Austria.

About the location:

Gosausee is a beautiful mountain lake surrounded by the peaks of the Dachstein massif, which forms part of the Salzburg Alps (the Salzkammergut region in Upper Austria). It lies at an elevation of 933 meters above sea level. An asphalt road leads directly to the lake, making it easily accessible by car, and there is also a restaurant located right beside it.

One of the most distinctive objects here is the Dachstein Glacier, situated directly opposite the starting point of the trail that circles the lake, next to the restaurant and parking area. It makes a truly impressive sight.

This is one of two lakes that share the name Gosausee (the other is Hinterer Gosausee, located much higher up and reachable via a trail from the lower lake. So far, I haven’t had the chance to visit it yet).

Gosausee to piękne jezioro górskie otoczone szczytami masywu Dachstein, wchodzącego w skład Alp Salzburskich (region Salzkammergut, Górna Austria). Leży na wysokości 933 metrów nad poziomem morza. Nad jezioro prowadzi asfaltowa droga, dzięki czemu można tu bez problemu dotrzeć samochodem. Tuż obok funkcjonuje również restauracja.

Jednym z najbardziej charakterystycznych punktów, na którym warto zawiesić oko jest lodowiec Dachstein, znajdujący się centralnie naprzeciw miejsca, w którym rozpoczyna się ścieżka wokół jeziora — obok restauracji i parkingu. Robi on naprawdę duże wrażenie.

To jedno z dwóch jezior noszących nazwę Gosausee (drugie to Hinterer Gosausee, położone znacznie wyżej, do którego prowadzi szlak z dolnego jeziora. Dotychczas nie udało mi się go jeszcze odwiedzić).

About photographing at the lake:

I visited this place in December, so the landscape had a winter feel, although snow was present only in the higher parts of the mountains. I photographed using a tripod and decided, among other things, to create wide panoramas. I make them using an “overlap” technique — taking several vertical shots, each new frame starting at roughly one third of the previous one. This allows Adobe Lightroom to accurately merge the images into a single wide, horizontal panoramic photograph.

I rarely use this technique, as I do not often take a tripod with me when traveling or heading into the mountains. The same was true this time as well. Last 2 shots are that panoramas.

Miejsce odwiedziłem w grudniu, więc krajobraz miał zimowy charakter, choć śnieg zalegał jedynie w wyższych partiach gór. Fotografowałem z użyciem statywu i zdecydowałem się między innymi na wykonanie szerokich panoram. Tworzę je techniką „nakładki” — wykonuję kilka pionowych zdjęć, z których każde kolejne zaczyna się mniej więcej w 1/3 poprzedniego ujęcia. Pozwala to programowi Adobe Lightroom na dokładne połączenie fotografii w jedno szerokie, poziome zdjęcie panoramiczne.

Rzadko korzystam z tej techniki, ponieważ statyw niezbyt często zabieram ze sobą w podróż czy w góry. Dwa ostatnie zdjęcia to te panoramiczne.
