Heather seasone part 2 heather sheeps!

This year, the heather field in my home town, are not as purple as I have hoped! In the beginning of the year it was very dry here in the Netherlands! During spring, we had a period of 34 day's without rain!

And for the Netherlands that's a very long period! And because it was in the beginning of spring, planets didn't get the start that they needed!

The sheep that are living in this area are still well fed because they really like the grasses that do good here and they also get extra food when they need it! As you see here, this area was once full of heather, and because of the drought, the grass doesn't look the good any more!

And the pollution in the Netherlands is also a big problem here! The emissions of CO2 from farmers, the industries and transportation is a big problem here in the Netherlands! Grasses grow better on it than the heather so that's also why they let the sheep graze here! They really are maintaining this area!

You see here that between the dry grass are patches of green and already a bit purple heather! The last weeks we had a bit more rain so some of the heather is starting to grow and bloom!

There is a little lake in the middle of this heather field! And you clearly see that around this area, the heather is way more purple and well developed that further away from this body of water!

I was watching the sheep roam around the area and it looks like every time there are one or two sheep standing guard! I don't know if this is truly what they do but a couple of months ago, 6 sheep were killed by a wolf! the wolf is a new predator here in the Netherlands! At least, they are back in the country! the last wolf was killed in the year 1881 and now, since 2015 they are back! So maybe they take turns watching out for him!

This one was scratching his back against a pole!

You described the natural landscape of your region very well, the photos are simply amazing. Sheep, field, lake - all this is a creation of nature. Good job. Thank you very much for sharing this beauty. Creative success to you.

If the wolf is not there, they are very happy 😊

Yes, if there were no wolves, they would be quite happy playing there. Do wolves often come there?

It happens 1 time. Wolvs are very new here in this region.

A shame the heather isn’t doing well in Dutchyland.
I remember wandering around the Veluwen seeing one purple blanket… everywhere.
Let’s hope next year is better.

I haven't been there this year, sadly my car broke down. I also didn't see many pictures of the Veluwe so I don't know how the conditions are there this moment

That’s a shame.
No idea either. It has been years since I visited that area.
This year the weather and nature is different for sure.

Glad you found an area with more heather. That is too bad about the lack of rain and the wolves. I like that picture where the sheep really looks like it is standing guard, it looks so majestic up on the hill like that.

It really looked if they were watching over the rest! It was cool to see it!
