Photographing Jupiter - Astrophotography

(Edited)

Something different today. This post is not really about quality photography because the result is more like a bunch of pixels.
Recently Jupiter was at the closest it's not going to be for another 60 years. It really was big in the say, the second largest and brightest ofject in our sky after the Moon.
I decided to try and take some close-ups from Jupiter. No telescope is involved, just my Nikon Z6II and 600mm Tamron lens that I took from from work to test out with. Obviously, I used the tripod as well.
Even though I have to crop in the picture quite a bit and it destroys the quality, I can still see the gas cloud colors in my photo. That is already awesome to capture something like that myself.

The focal length was 600mm. ISO 160 and shutter speed 1/500 due to a pretty heavy shake, f6.3. Obviously cropped the crap out of the original photo to see something. I also tried stacking but the Jupiter on the original photos is too small and stoftwares that I use for this can't really do anything with these shots, so it's a single frame here.

Here is a shot from farther away with my 200mm lens. Here you can see Jupiter and the 3 small stars next to it are Jupiter moons Io, Europa and Ganymede. You can see the third one if you watch very closely, it's very close to a planet. Probably you also see it better on a 4k display.

Anyway, it's awesome to capture something like this. I also took photos of Saturn, oh and the rings are visible! Will show you this in a separate post too. Stay tuned.

I saw the rings and they are visible. Your pictures made me happy. We can really see the other planets by capturing through our lens.

Yep, but need the right equipment to get one. I want to buy a telescope at some point to those really awesome shots!

I find it really interesting to take shots of cosmic objects. One thing is to see it on the photos on google but to photograph one yourself is amazing.
