I like to watch

u-dirty-cunt (2).jpg

I get a lot of enjoyment out of watching and I've done a lot of it over the years...unfortunately not so much lately I suppose. Collecting watches, is somewhat of a hobby of mine and I've indulged (probably) more than I should however, like most hobbies, I've given in to the enjoyment-factor.

My three favourite photos are the first three, my Rolex, a Tag Heuer and Mercedes watch. I think that one directly below is my number one favourite though; the light and shadow plays nicely on the eye I think. As far as which watch is my favourite? I've left that one for last, my Casio G-Shock Mudmaster. I love that fucken thing probably more than is wholesome, but it screams g-dog, is perfectly me! I wear it daily, the others hardly get taken out of the safe.

The watches I photographed here are just some I've bought over the years. I left a few out as I wanted to put only my very favourite ones into this post. Ok, if I'm totally honest every watch I own is a favourite, but I had to cut down the photos in this post.

My watches are mostly quite costly and have been gained over my life through hard work, effort, taking calculated risks, putting myself out there in uncomfortable positions, being accountable, learning new skills and having an ethos of continual self-improvement, showing discipline, ownership and resilience, not being afraid to fail and the ability to stand up and dust off when knocked down...

Although there's one here in this post that cost me six Australian dollars and I bought it because it just looks cool. Can you pick the one I refer to out?

Whilst you're at it maybe you'd like to let me know which photograph is your favourite one, or maybe which of the watches you like the best. Feel free to let me know in the comments below, or just comment generally, I'll engage back.

I love cars, but can’t afford to collect them. Watches though, I can afford. So I have a small collection, but the only one I seem to use lately is my “smart watch” which isn’t that elegant, but does count my daily steps. The nicer ones seem to just sit in the drawer collecting dust.

I hear you and feel your pain on the car thing. I have a few, but not really the one's I'd like to collect, I can't afford those ones.

The watches, yeah I can do that, but mine sit in my watch winder and go around and around and that's about it. I'll break out the Rolex now and then, a Tag Heuer or two, but only a couple times a year. Still, it's nice to have them there. To me, they represent many years of hard work, invested time (my life's time) and ownership. So, I don't really need to wear them I guess, they represent those things regardless if I do or not. And besides, I live my Mudmaster so much. (Yes, I just looked at it and conveyed that love.) 😁

Now I sort of feel like adding another to the collection. It's been awhile since I bought one. First one I bought was a Seiko a few decades back.

Great photos. I think watches are a good item to collect. They are timeless. See what I did there?

I'm going to take a wild guess and say the $6 watch was the Infantry one? Not entirely sure. None of them look like a $6 watch to be honest.

Smart ass.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say the $6 watch was the Infantry one?

I'll reveal it later...let's see if anyone is more confident with their own assessment.

Also...no comment about my title? Fuck, all that time it took for me to think it up wasted!

I've recently been considering whether to buy a wristwatch again. If I do, it'll probably be a cheap Casio. I don't want a lot of functions. No alarms. No calendar. Just tell me what time it is. I'd like to see a self-charging option, but really, batteries are cheap.

Suunto also makes a compass worn like a wristwatch. Tempting. But while it tells North, it doesn't tell time.

Casio are great watches, I have two, a Rangemaster and the Mudmaster pictured, both are excellent watches. My partner has a G-shock also, a Baby-G and she loves it despite having a more expensive watch. We're a Casio G-shock family.

I'd like to see a self-charging option

Both of my G-shocks are solar with a six month run-time without sunlight. Look at their range, you'll find what you want.

I like those Suunto watches, the Garmin ones too, but I can't justify one considering I have a handheld Garmin Satnav. Maybe one day when my Satnav dies.

I don't like spending much on a watch, and I was looking for dirt cheap and dead simple, but this also has potential. As for Suunto, I was thinking more this and less this.

Well, I'd go for the Casio were it me, but you probably figured I'd say that. That first one resembles a Swatch, remember them?

That Core Alpha Stealth (Suunto) is a nice looking thing. $399 AUD here I see.

My, my, that's a cool collection of watch! And they all scream "EXPENSIVE." It's hard to guess the cheapest one in there. And if I will choose base on the design I like, ill chose picture no.3. I love the simplicity of it. As for the best shot in here, I love picture no.2, I love the background which emphasize more the subject, and it looks cool too 🤩.

I cant really tell where is the $6 watch in there but I think its picture no.3?

I just remembered it's Saturday and looking at the title, I'm like "....yeah, right." Hehe. You love to watch indeed.

I love your collection and can tell that you are a man of good taste and standards not just with behaviour but with material things as well. Guns, knives, boots, cars, wristwatches... Still looking forward to knowing more about you. The shots are great and I always love rubber belt wristwatches because they are very comfortable, I struggle with chains and barely use them.

I have looked through all these watches, they are all reputable brands and can't figure out which cost $6.

I love wristwatches as well but I just go for simple stuff because of my purse... Converting the cost of these wristwatches to naira is quite a lot of money.

I usually apply a buy once, cry once ethos to my purchases and that often means paying a little more for items. Buying something like the watch in the first image is a life purchase, my entire life. It'll get handed down to my nephew and it'll last his lifetime also. It just makes sense to me.

The watch in the last image is my favourite as I said and is a perfect example of buying for quality. I use the watch every day, shooting, hunting, camping working...whatever I do. It's rugged and takes the beating I give it...A cheaper variant would not.

Converting the cost of these wristwatches to naira is quite a lot of money.

Yes, but keep in mind our economies are vastly different.

Many people make assumptions, about me and others too I suppose, but they're often just that and may or may not be accurate. I think it's a difficult thing to understand other people generally and even more difficult from a few words written on social media. I reveal a lot about myself in some of my posts for those who see between the lines and the rest...well, as you say, they assume.

I hope you have a good weekend...not a long weekend for you folks. Bummer.

Manufactured. It's barely snowed in weeks here. Just snowed again (finally!) this afternoon and looks like it might snow on and off over the next 48 hours. The rain that was passing over/near you looks like it will reach us as snow by tomorrow morning.🤞 Hopefully, there will be enough in the next day or two to finally open the 8 seated chairlift so we don't have to keep hiking up Front Valley just to ski down it. !LOL

That are really well taken photos!! The Tag is really nice, quite elegant!

Thanks man, it was difficult not to get glare in the glass but I managed to avoid it on most of them. The Tag? Yeah, bloody nice that one. I gave one of my others to @tarazkp a while back...maybe he'll do a post on it. I like my Tag's for sure.

I wear my Mudmaster (the last picture) every day whether it's work, shooting, hiking, doing DIY or going to some bullshit black tie event...It's a statement in the last case...sort of, fuck you I'm not this person but I'll pretend for appearances sake...except for my watch! One must have a G-shock my friend.

I often leave my phone home so wear the watch instead, old-school style. Lol.

I almost bought a Fossil watch back in the day, can't recall why I didn't; I didn't know they made smart watches.

These are all nice looking watches. What a cool item to be into collecting. Those higher end ones like Rolex and Mont Blanc must actually go up in value if kept in great condition.

As far as the $6 watch I am going with the Infantry. Honestly, I like it though. It is simple and practical for someone who is outdoors and active.

My favorite is the mother loving G-shock. I might ask my wife for one of those for Christmas this year. Going to have to see if they have one that monitors heart rate and stuff.

Very impressive. Not so much the bling, but the hard work you did to earn them for yourself. Respect.

Yep, there's a few there that are appreciating assets but I'll never sell them. Rather, my niece and nephew will get them and then they can sell them when I'm gone or keep them if they want.

Good guess I'm the six dollar one.

And yep, that Mudmaster G-Shock is a killer watch man, well worth the effort to get one.

I understand what you are saying about not selling the watches. The same can be said for my coin collection and silver stack. I will just pass it on to my boys.

Yeah, right now I wear a cheap little Fitbit. I would like to get a nice watch since I am starting to get more active again. But I need to get one that monitors my heart rate and stuff. Hoping G-shock makes one. I will have to shop around. If you know of any rugged watches that do, would you let me know please. Thanks.

Yep, the same with my metals as well...I'll give them away too...when those little people are a bit older and before aindie...I want to see them get value from it and enjoy the things I hand down.

I'll see what I can come up with on the heart monitor thing, not sure Casio make one but I'll take a look around for you.

Wowww what a wonderful watches!

I love them! You know, I have a fascination with the subject of time, something I've been studying for years for personal reasons, things that happen to me. But that's beside the point....

The thing is that watches represent a lot to me, beyond the machinery. It measures... time?

I'm going to start philosophising, I'm sorry I'm like that...

In short, I love watches! The pocket ones, these ones, the hourglasses, any of them, but because of what they mean to me.

As for which one cost you 6 Australian dollars, I honestly don't know much about watch values, but I'll go for picture 7.

Which photographs do I like best? All of them.

Which watches do I like the most? 1, 2 y 4.

Note: I like very much the illumination that gives the white background for this case of photographs, in those of the flowers I like more the dark one.

The clock in photo 5 looks very similar to one my grandfather had.

Another note: Did I tell you I like clocks? Very much!

Time is an important thing, our most valuable commodity and yet the one so many people spend unwisely.

Good guess on the cheapie and yep, those watchws you picked out are also my among my favourite ones...they all are really.

You mention clocks, that's another item people like to collect; they're a pretty good invention really, clocks and watches...some very smart people came up with something we take for granted now, but truly is an amazing invention.

I love wrist watches, and have a few in my collection. Casio for me tops the list, no matter the price, the quality is always top notch. Tissot is another beauty, I have one that belonged to my father and I plan on restoring it some day.

Now, if we're talking about the fancy ones then one day I'd like to own something like a Tudor Black Bay, maybe a Rolex Yacht Master or Datejust, or the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch(which is probably my a favorite from the the ones I've mentioned).

PXL_20230311_090551204.jpg

A few months ago I got this beauty for $40 USD. It was a sweet deal, because back then these costed around $55/60. It's the perfect "daily watch" for me. It reminds me of the Rolex Datejust quite a lot, and I guess that's what made me pull the trigger on it haha.

Another watch aficionado huh? Nice!

You mention some nice watches to aspire to and Casio and Tissot do a nice unit, no doubt.

I recall getting my first watch, I was nine and thought it was the best thing ever...that feeling stayed with me as an adult and my little collection gives me a lot of enjoyment, as yours will for you.

0

Another watch aficionado huh?

Yep, since I was 10 or something, I've always loved watches. I think it started with those square shaped classic Casios, the Vintage with the digital dial.

and Casio and Tissot do a nice unit, no doubt.

I've been eyeing the Tissot PRX series, the quartz model specifically. It's such a beauty and the price is somewhat within my "budget" for now, and a swiss watch for around $300 USD is a steal I'd say.

But I won't be getting it any time soon, even though I can go and get it now if I want, but right now I just can't. I've adopted this habit, where I only "gift" myself something nice when I've earned it, when I've made a difference or have performed well in some aspect of my life, especially work. So, the wait goes on for now.

that feeling stayed with me as an adult and my little collection gives me a lot of enjoyment, as yours will for you.

Most of the watches I had were toys haha. They did tell the time, but I never really liked them that much. The adults at that time used to rock the vintage Casios, and even at that age those watches were quite intriguing to me and I still love that vintage design and look. Those things are timeless.

rather than simply giving in to one's wants.

My wants will remain the same, they've always been the same, most of them at least. But I believe right now it's the time to build. There are already so many difficulties, not just here in my country, but worldwide.

So, to spend that much money on a watch right now would be an impulsive decision. And I already have a few decent options to choose from, thus, that little beauty can wait for now.

Hopefully the wait will be worth it. ✨

I love to watch!
Great title! 😅 And
Your collection has some amazing pieces

I love watches, I think they're a must-have for every guy.
One of the best gifts I ever got from my mom was a watch, not expensive, an Invicta, but I know she had to save up for it. It's been 10 years now and I still have it and wear it.

I hope to keep adding to my collection over the years, and some models are a good investment.

I think the $6 one is the Infantry, they cost about $30 in this part of the world, so it wouldn't be surprising if that's the one.

And my favorite? It's tough to choose, but I'd have to go with the Montblanc GMT. I like other models from that brand too.

All the pictures look like they're from a magazine, maybe if some watch company is looking for photographers you should apply 😅

I like that you have that watch after ten years, it shows you respect it and the things you have; I like that in a person.

You're a fellow with taste too, Montblanc is an excellent brand and they make some really cool and classy items without too much fanfare; just well designed and quality-made.

Thanks for your nice comments on the photos, I enjoyed this shoot a lot although it was a little frustrating getting it right, or as close to right as I could ever get it considering my skills and equipment.

As for the cheap watch...did you have to look it up or did you know?

A few years ago, I wanted to get my dad a watch because his old one was really worn out. But it had to meet two conditions: it couldn't be too expensive (because I didn't have much money) and it had to have a military style (my dad was a fighter pilot). I found two brands that fit: Timex and Infantry. I went with Timex, but I found out how cheap the Infantry watches were (pre-COVID, you could get the cheapest ones for around $25 in this part of the world).

So I guess I kinda cheated...😅

Truly, people who "like to watch" must have watches. You can't watch without a watch. For me,I think the one you are referring to as the costliest in one of the paragraphs is the second one. It is also the one that appears to be my favourite,I really love it.

My favorite photograph is the second one. I love black and white images but that aside I'm in love with Rolex watches. Sadly can't afford that now. Haha.

I agree, and see a watch as a musrlt have/wear item. I know that phones tell the time and everyone has one, but I see my mobile phone as more of an annoyance. My watch on the other hand, whatever I wear, is a statement.

I have an Omega watch, great timepieces, sorry yours has ceased to work. You'll get it up and running though, I'm sure.

I thought the $6 watch would be the G-shock because it has a pretty basic look like most watches I’ve seen, but a quick google search showed that was a terrible idea. That thing is packed!

Then I saw quartz on that other (infantry) watch and something just whispered “this must be it”. I don’t collect watches exactly, but my dad is a watch collector and I’ve seen a lot of Quartzs in his collection and if you know my dad, he’s not one to buy things that are very expensive. Lol

Lol, yeah that G-Shock is certainly not the cheapest and yep it has a lot of features which why I have it.

Quartz refers to how the watch is powered. See below.

"A quartz movement utilizes a battery as its primary power source and is typically the type of movement that you will find in your standard, no-frills watch. To create power in quartz watch movements, a battery sends an electrical current through a small quartz crystal, electrifying the crystal to create vibrations."

So, most of the watches in this post are powered that way, but not all. The Rolex for instance is automatic meaning it is powered by movement which winds it up and keeps it running. A few of the others are too.

That's what watch-winders do. They keep the watches wound up when not being worn. I have one which is where my watches live when not being worn. They go ten minutes one way, ten the next, and the watch mechanisms wind up. Simple concept really.

I just googled watch winders, first time I’m hearing of one. It would appear I don’t know anything about watches. The winder’s mechanism really is pretty cool, but the winder images I saw themself are cooler! Very nice!

If one has multiple automatic watches a watch winder is pretty much essential. They're actually quite expensive to buy but a small investment compared to the watches that go in them.

I learned a whole lot about watches and reaffirmed all I know about them just by reading the main post and all the comments/interactions below the post (I do that a lot when I am captivated by a lovely writeup)
You might notice with the likes in a few comments that struck a cord (within me though).

And this

My watch on the other hand, whatever I wear, is a statement.

Right on. And the mention of the watch you wear ever so often no matter the occasion - that too makes a statement. ‘We mustn't always blend in.’

Every watch ⌚ says something to me (all good I must add) and the third reminding me about my dad- it looks like a watch he would wear.

I love watches, wristwatches most especially as they have a way of completing one's outfit. Adding a little ‘pezar’ to a persons look and like you said ‘makes a statement’. Though I don't have a collection right now, I just watch and admire.

The sentiments behind your collection of watches called to me and I couldn't stop reading. You are the ‘G’💕
