If you know, you know

Time to hit the road for one more time, following the pendulum of my life, from the mainland to my home island. As usual, I tried to make the most of the trip, making scenic detours, fitting in between some errands in the city and seeing old friends on the way. No wonder why a trip that shouldn't take more than 14 hours, took me more than 24!

But that's the way I like to travel. Rushing is not my thing and experience has taught me that every time I try to rush things, it ends up badly.

During my route I had to pass a canal. A big one with ships crossing it every day. I had three options to get to the other side of the canal. The new bridge, the old bridge and the tiny one.

Can you guess which one I chose?

That choice "cost" me about half an hour but it allowed me to make a big part of the route towards the city, from small country roads and lush nature. It is spring after all and driving in a grey motorway was not my number one priority.

At some point though, I realized that I wouldn't be on time for an appointment I had in Athens if I kept choosing the scenic and less travelled roads, so I entered the dull and grey motorway that I was avoiding till then.

And even the sky was more grey than before!

Once I arrived in the city, I went close to my old neighborhood. As a former local I know where I can find free parking practically downtown. Although that's a piece of information that I am not going to reveal here. If you know, you know :)

And I continued my day with more urban means of transport. No I don't mean those electric toys in the picture above. Just walking and the old metro line that goes all the way from the port to the northern suburbs.

A few more hours passed (without any pictures) and the dusk found me at the port, waiting my turn to get in the ferry. The boat trip lasts all night which is kind of cool since you get to see the day fading away and the new one coming in a single route. The picture above is the sunrise, just before we arrive to the island.

I was by then, less than an hour away from the olive grove that I was eager to see but again a small detour, to see an old friend, delayed me a couple more hours.

But finally I was there, walking among flowers and thistles, I was reunited with my trees, just in time to see them bloomed, at the most delicate phase of fruit making.
