An Ode to Late Spring/Early Summer Flowers: A Series of Photographs and Poems

1.JPG

the summer sun creates flowers
from its shining rays
latent potential in the ground
released by the heat
and the last of the rains

The days started out cold and the winds and rains just continued. It feels like winter in the middle of summer. The weather is strange, and my body has already thought it is summer. I needed a little hope, and thus I choose to share with you these beautiful flowers today. It is mainly to get my spirits up after two days of rain and icy and freezing weather. The last week, it was almost 35 Celsius every day. Today, it was a measly 11 or so. That is almost a 25-degree Celsius difference. And my body can feel it.

These flowers bloomed at the foot of the mountains on a local "sustainability" farm. What they are doing there is any gardener's dream. We caught them at the right moment, I mean the flowers, as they opened in the late spring/early summer sun. Today it feels like winter, so to try and get my soul warmed up, I want to write an ode to these beautiful flowers.

Without further ado, I hope you enjoy these flowers and the written words.

An Ode to Late Spring/Early Summer Flower

peaches and plums
your memories fade
as the nub on the stem
bursts into a flower
filled with potential
of new memories
waiting to grow

peaches and plums
your flowers drip with honey
as my mind wanders through pollen-filled desires
for the fruits you will soon birth

your flowers burst from the ground
straight to the point
you breathe colour
that only you understand

you swallow me whole
you take my soul
with your beauty
I am a slave to your sight
in the early morning sun

hanging in nature's gallery
as a symbol of her pride
shooting from the ground
each year with newfound energy

hanging in nature's gallery
a metaphor only she can understand
as I am a mere onlooker
of her beauty

all seeing all knowing
inside of her wisdom
hides my broken soul
shivering hiding from
the monster I have become
in search of more and more and more
now only a fragile learner
inside of her wisdom

constantly deferred
flower after flower
spreading her seeds through the wind
writing poetry on the back of her petals
oh beauty hath no words
as the breeze blows her away

a honey haiku

I lay my head in her
palms and I swallow mouthfuls
of dripping honey

innocent desire
lustful thoughts
two white flowers
and nothing but aching
for the sun's touch
and the wind's breath

pillows of soft flowers
to lay my weary head on
pillows of soft flowers
to satisfy my soul's desire
for a restful day

pillows of soft flowers
row on row
I wonder what might be
her thoughts when the sun
touches her intimately
just after the rains
growing her roots deeper and deeper
in my mind

purple desire
quench my thirst with your honey
invitingly sweet

Postsriptum, or The Sun Will Shine Again

These flowers remind me of the summer sun while it is raining outside and my hands are freezing. Strange the weather the last couple of years. I cannot even think what the plants must feel. While they are getting ready for the summer, like we humans are as well, a wave of cold days hits them without warning. The weather has been strange lately...

In any case, I hope that you enjoyed these photographs and the musings/poems that go with them.

Happy photographing and keep well.

The writings and poems in this post are my own. The photographs are also my own, taken with my Nikon D300 and 50mm Nikkor lens.

Thank you so much! Indeed, flowers always bring us back to beauty and splendour of the world we live in. We should just take the time to appreciate the beauty.
