"A Savannah Afternoon" - Photographs and Musings
There is nothing like a bushveld (Kruger) or savannah sunset and sunrise. It is one of the most beautiful sightings, for myself, and for many others as well. You always hear about people longing for the bushveld, once they leave, and I can really attest to it. Driving there just feels different, and it provides you with ample opportunity for the most beautiful photographs.
This is yet another series of photograph of our bushveld and savannah adventures. I feel like the longer we stayed, the better my photographs got. Obviously, all of the credit goes to the animals and the setting, I just hit the shutter button on the camera, but sometimes you are just lucky to be there that second.
A side of the Kruger that not a lot of people appreciate is the dead trees that stand close to the road. I really want to draw charcoal paintings of them, standing so tall yet isolated. Something just lures me, tugging me...
Between the trees and the sunsets/sunrises we saw again a bunch of zebras close to the road. Lucky for me, we caught a naughty zebra butt photograph as well!
This day, we were blessed with so many animals that stood close by, almost close enough to be touched through the window. It is incredible when you look these animals in their eyes, almost seeing humanity in them. Almost seeing the universe in their eyes. How can we not have these animals around us? How could we choose a life devoid of their beauty? Landscapes full of homes and houses, cities and towns, devoid of animal life except birds. How could we choose this life?
When you start to look at life differently, you notice the smaller details. I saw the kneecap of a giraffe. No one in their right mind will look at the knees of a giraffe. But there I sat, taking these photographs. I think it had a really aesthetic look to it.
And then, another day ended. Another sunset, and another sunrise. More animals and more life. We enjoyed it like the last time, but we appreciated it on another level. The more you see, the more you realise what is happening, the more you understand, the more you will appreciate it.
I am not sure if enough appreciate it for the right reasons.
I hope you are having a good start to the new year.
Happy photographing, and keep well.
All of the musings and writings are my own, albeit inspired by the savannah. All of the photographs are my own, taken with my Nikon D300 and Tamron 300mm zoom lens.
Wow! These are beautiful shots.
You just gave me a flashback of those wildlife documentaries I have been watching notable the 'Dreamer' and the 'Misfit'
It would be nice to see how it would turn out😊
Thank you so much, and I am glad that it had that effect in you. So sorry for the delayed response. Hope that you are well.

Being in the right place at the right time—that's luck! The more we see the universe, the more we realize that we are a tiny part of nature. Beautiful images. Best regards, @fermentedphil
What a wonderful landscape, and I understand perfectly what you mean: nature is so impressive that it is absurd to believe that we are the only ones who deserve to live. Nature is the best model there is. Best regards.
Thank you so much, and I agree! So sorry for only replying now. Thanks again.

@riverflows is right!! These are wonderful. First pictures I looked at this morning, even before coffee (but not before the cat had breakfast). Quite stunning.
Thank you so much! And I am so sorry for only replying now. Things were and still are a bit crazy.

Love the shots, so interesting to see wildlife from other areas that we never get to see here.
