Textile Art, My Love

This exhibition was a huge surprise to me, a very nice one. I didn't know what I am about to see, so imagine my surprise when at the gate, I saw the poster saying it's a textile art exhibition.

Why I like textile art so much? Because I see it as the most accessible for me, with the little skills I have. Ever since I started sewing, I had a few ideas of what I would create and how, but the truth is, lack of time is always a deciding factor in what I create or what I don't create. To start creating any kind of art, you need time, as you can't just start working on something for 5 minutes, then drop it as you have other commitments.

Anyway, this post is not about me, it's about a wonderful textile artist called Ilona Sajgó, who's art has a special place in my heart and on my blog as well. I'm really curious if I'm the only one who finds her artworks fantastic, or not. Let me know in a comment.

This was the scene I first saw, when I entered the gallery and you can imagine the joy I felt. This is exactly the kind of art I love and would be happy to have.

This is why I never go to any exhibition with expectations. It's a habit I have for ages and it's perfect for me. When I step in the first room and have a quick look, that's the most precious moment for me. Here, I was like a kid in a candy story, you can see why. My mind starts racing and I'm not going to lie, I'm often are thinking who's a fan of this type of art. Here, I don't know, because I don't know any textile artist on Hive, there was someone but they are not active anymore, however, I think @mandragora88 would like it. She's a painter, but her style is close to what you are going to see here. @mandragora88, I hope I'm not offending you here, it's not my intention 😬

Tree of life

This is textile art, but abstract as well, so when you have a title attached to the artwork, most likely you try to see what the artist meant. Or, like I do, you look at it, try to figure out what it is, then look at the title to see if you're right. I can guarantee you, you'll be wrong 98% of the time, because figuring artists out is not an easy job, but that's the fun of it.

Tree of life is a very common concept, most of the artists have one piece dedicated to it, but still, this doesn't mean you can see the same thing. Every artist has a different idea about how to illustrate it, which is why every artwork is different.

I took close-up photos of many of the artworks to show you what they are made of as when it comes to textile art, it's not just paint or wood or glass. You have a great variety of fabrics, threads, yarns and not only. To my surprise and great satisfaction, I saw all these are hand stitched, which makes them more valuable in my eyes.

Among flowers

This was a fantastic piece. A lady, who's dress is made of flowers and she's also surrounded by flowers. I don't think I have proper words to express how lovely this is and how much I like it.

Look at her hat, which is a key piece of the artwork in my opinion. Look at the stitches. All made by hand.

Towards the light

I would have called this ascension, but the original title kinda suggests the same. Apart from the complexity and the beauty of this artwork, what charmed me even more was the earthy colors, which are my favorite.

If you have a closer look, you can see how many pieces together make this artwork. Now imagine finding, buying, or collecting all these pieces. This is why I said, here, your work is not as easy as when you're working with paint. You go buy or order the colors, then mix them till you get the desired nuance, but you can't do this with textile.

Debut

Standing in front of this piece, looking at it from close and far, I tried to figure out, why the artist called it debut, but I can't, I have no clue. I see a lady (maybe) in festive clothes, but might be wrong. Either way, I love it, it's interesting.
