Textile Art Again

As I said last week in my post, at the beginning of last month I had the pleasure to visit three new exhibitions.

When I saw the exhibition is about textile art, my first taught was, thank God, I'm not going to have to deal with reflection. This was true, but there were still challenges, as each piece was long, bigger than the usual artworks you see these days and the space between them was not much, so I had to work magic to have some half decent photos and even so, there are some, where I could not cut off the artwork next to them.

As I was walking through them was wondering if any of these absolute beauties are for sale. I'm friends with the gallery lady, so asked her right away and to my surprise, some of them were actually for sale.

It's funny how the human mind works. When you go to an exhibition, you know your financial situation before you enter the gallery, you know what you can or cannot afford. I knew I'd love to have one or more, or all of these beauties, but was hoping none of them are for sale, because this way I wouldn't have to make a decision and it would have saved me from a lot of headache. Well, I was wrong.

When I was told I could negotiate with the artist and most likely the prices are affordable, I had to make a decision and after a lot of thinking, decided not to buy any. Not because I could not decide which one to be, but because I don't have the space for them. So all I am left with is the photos and the lovely memories and I'm really grateful as it motivates me to create my own textile art, or at least start collecting textile for the first one.

Ok, let's see what else I could see at this lovely exhibition, but before I start, if you haven't see the first part, feel free to check it out here.

On Stage

This was one of the pieces I'd love to have. A very elegant lady, a dive if I can say that, made of textile.

There's no way I could resist temptation, so I went closer and took some close-ups to see how it is made. Hand stitched as expected.

Flower Shower

I loved this a lot, due to the colors used but not only.

I was looking at the materials used and gave me an idea. I recognized some of the laces. I have some of them and although these are from my grandmother, memories from the past, still, using lace is a very good idea. I love how the artist chose the colors here.

20250408_110728.jpg

The Bride

This is pretty straight forward, but not the way you'd expect it to be. Brides these days look like princesses, dressed up in white, but it wasn't always like that. A couple of centuries ago, ladies had folk costumes dedicated to this special event and I suppose this is exactly what the artist meant here. It's exceptional for sure.

20250408_110812.jpg

Hooded Model

This is another one I'd be happy to have, because I like the concept and the colors as well.

20250408_110851.jpg

20250408_110856.jpg

If you look at the fabrics, you can see these pieces were selected with care, to match the composition as a whole. Choosing orange with green was a perfect decision.

Tree Of Life

As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, this topic is widely covered by art, and even though it's the same topic, each artist has their own way to illustrate it. This is a very simple way, you can see the tree with it's branches, but it's a good one.

Roots And Wings

This exhibition made me think of what I'm going to do with my desire of creating textile art and even though my time is limited and my first priority is studying, it feels like I'm one step closer to starting. I will definitely be back and posting about what I'll be creating.

Incredible art. Congrats on both, the idea and the work. It's the first time I've seen something like this and I'm truly fascinated.

Oh, I just read it all and misunderstood. But anyway, you captured these at your best. Good job and thanks for sharing theseee!

No worries. It's not my art unfortunately, but it's gorgeous nevertheless. I wrote in my first post about who's the artist.

Stay tuned for the next one.

The patterns on the textile art have a resemblance to an attire associated with the Western people of Africa.

I'm not from Africa, have never been there, so I take your word for it.

Very fascinating. I'm not sure, but can't recall if I have ever seen textile art before. The Bride is my favorite from all your pictures captured above. It will be very nice to see what you eventually create.

Textile art is not as common as paintings or sculpture for example, but it has its beauty and for me it is just as important as the rest, or even more important.

I'm glad I could show you something you've never seen before.

It will be very nice to see what you eventually create.

I will definitely do a post about it :)

I find this textile art really neat. My vote goes towards the hooded model.

Well you survived you didnt buy any 😆 Now making your own can be fun. I wonder 🤔 if you make for yourself or sell to others. Might be another decision you have to make 😄 How attached can you get with your own work?

Well thanks for sharing these cool and interesting pieces. Take care and hope you have a great weekend ahead soon. 😁

You raise some interesting points here.

  • if you make for yourself or sell to others. - This is a very important one. It would definitely be for me because it would be the first one, so it'd be more like a test (?), to see if I'm capable of creating something interesting.
  • How attached can you get with your own work? - This is also a very important one. I've never created art for sale (I'm not an artist 😜) but I know what you mean, because I used to create bags for sale and there were some that I kept for myself because I loved them. Those were unique pieces, because I worked with recycled material and I never had the same one.

Once I start working on my project, I'll definitely do a post for you to see 😉

Thank you for the nice comment, you too have a nice weekend and catch some fish 🐟

Those are great pieces. When I first scrolled down and saw the Flower Shower piece, I thought, hmm..those are her colors! All of the pieces you've showcased are in the same color family. My favorites are The Bride and Hooded Model. Love those!

You know me well and I agree with you. Those are really my colors and indeed, there was an incredible harmony between the colors, looks like these are not only my colors, but the artist's colors too.

I'm glad you have not one, but two favorites here :)

In truth, they were all really good! Fall is my favorite season and the colors scream fall.

We have a lot to learn, that there are no rules regarding art. My opinion about art is that art should be beautiful. And you have so far found three artists that I really like. I have always been a collector all my life. You seem to be one of those people too! Shouldn't we try to create a small textile tapestry? These works inspire me immensely. I think I can start cleaning out my junk and see what I have. All the tapestries are so exquisitely beautiful.
Fantastic work!

Indeed, there are no rules when it comes to art, this is why we have so many wonderful creations.

I am a collector as well, to some degree and this is why I'm going to create my own textile art.

I'm really curious to see what you're going to create, whether it is painting or textile. I think this is your stile, or close to it.

What a beautiful and original art exhibition made with fabrics, where the artist has made them combine perfectly so that the composition is harmonious. The colours he used in each one are ideal for each other and capture the viewer's attention.

The work of rain of flowers was one of my favourites, as well as the first one for its elegance and the hooded man. They are all beautiful, but how to mention something big if you don't have much space. It gives ideas for other artists to be inspired by and that is very good.

I was fascinated to see this show you have brought, it is very authentic and original. Thank you very much!

Oh my! What talent the artist has displayed in all her creations. She really honors different cultures through her designs. I would be like you and have a very hard time deciding on just one. You may have to start creating one for yourself. ♥

She is indeed talented and wait till you see the rest as this is just a part of it.

I would be like you and have a very hard time deciding on just one. You may have to start creating one for yourself. ♥

This is why I said in one of my posts, that I'd better create my own, because I don't have any talent and maybe this type of art does not require precision and would be easier for me.

These are all gorgeous! You've given me an idea of how to use all the linens that have been left to me by various ancestors. I sure would love to have any of these in my life. What were the prices about, do you know?

I love to read that my posts inspired someone and you're the second in this category. This means my work was not in vain. I got the phone number of the artist, in case I decide to buy one, but decided not to call as there's no space for such big artworks in my flat. However, from what I know, one can cost around 300 - 400 euro.
