Flower Porn

... if there's such a thing as flower porn at all, but I suppose if there's food porn, there has to be flower porn as well.

Our Traveling.jpg

After the mărțișor fair that took place in the last week of February, the next one is the one I visited today is the biggest flower fair of the year as well. It's a huge event organized to supply flowers to those celebrating the international event that takes place each year on the 8th of March, called International Women's Day.

20260307_104717a.JPG

For me, this fair is an absolute must for several reasons. Yes, the most obvious one is that I can buy some flowers, but after a long and mostly sunny but grey winter, I can finally enjoy the multitude of colors and fragrance this fair offers each year. The second you arrive at the first flower stall, you can smell the lovely scent of hyacinths, which I believe is the strongest of all.

20260307_104741a.JPG

My country has four seasons on paper, in reality we mostly have three, but regardless, winter here doesn't permit growing anything outside, so we have seasonal flowers and tulips are one of them. It is a common motif in Hungarian folk art, especially on love gifts and embroideries. I love tulips a lot, but unfortunately they last for a very short period of time.

This market has the same faith as the previous one. Supply exceeds demand hundredfold and to have some decent sales, not just make ends meet, you need to come up with some very good ideas. Selling the same flower at the same price can only lead to slim results. This is why the offer is diversified and you can buy almost anything from individual flowers or bouquets, to baskets and really exquisite flower arrangements, depending on your budget and the person you'd like to gift flowers to.

20260307_104854a.JPG

Those who don't want to spend their money on flowers that last one week at best, have the opportunity to buy these dry flower arrangements that last a lifetime.

20260307_104913a.JPG

As I said, sky is the limit when it comes to creativity and you see flowers packed in baskets, wrapped in paper and even in these boxes.

20260307_104933a.JPG

The variety of flowers you see here is our usual 8th of March flower offer. Some flowers are perennial flowers, others are just for the event.

I think every lady is happy to get flowers as often as possible, but I was thinking of those who don't celebrate this day.

International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on 8 March, commemorating women's fight for equality and liberation along with the women's rights movement. International Women's Day gives focus to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women. Spurred by the universal female suffrage movement, International Women's Day originated from labor movements in Europe and North America during the early 20th century.

Imagine how many women have no right to anything, the are kept in the house and are dominated all their life. It's sad.

20260307_105114a.JPG

20260307_105202a.jpg

This is where things get interesting. Just watch.

20260307_105208a.JPG

As flowers are not the only thing you can gift to women on this special day, there were other items too, like these lovely gingerbread hearts, flowers and whatnot. Gingerbread is known as a Christmas sweet, but not in my country. These heart shaped gingerbread used to be souvenirs people would bring home from fairs to wife and kids, in the 20h century or earlier. I've never seen these gingerbread tulips but love them as well as the hearts and others. This is art in my eyes.

20260307_105237a.JPG

For those who like these unrealistic, kitschy flowers, you could buy them, although I overheard a seller saying she hopes they can sell these roses as in 2 days they sold 15. Poor performance, but honestly, why buy these when you have the seasonal ones?

20260307_105349(0)a.JPG

20260307_105402(0)a.JPG

I'm not going to lie, I stopped here when I saw the earrings, but bought nothing. These looked nice and they had those lovely kiwi green colors, but the design was not what I'd prefer.

20260307_105854(0)a.jpg

Flower buckets and soap.

20260307_105910a.JPG

20260307_110054a.jpg

Look who decided to visit the flower market. After I took the photo, this cutie pie laid down under a table and didn't want to move. Then, after his owner's insistence, he got up, lazily moved on to sniffing the flowers.

20260307_110115a.JPG

He was very disciplined though, quite lazy and not at all interested in what was going on.

This is it for today. I hope you like flowers 😏

I'm surprised you don't have such flower market where you live.

I hope I understood what you meant as I don't speak Spanish and had to use translator to read your comment.

Your city has so many different events — from exhibitions to fairs. Not every city can boast such a number of organized activities. You’re lucky to live in a place like that!

I’d like to congratulate you and @bibana in advance on March 8, although here it started about 20 minutes ago already. To be honest, I don’t really know anyone else.

And happy International Women’s Day to all the girls on the Hive blockchain!

Tomorrow I’m leaving for the islands — who knows, maybe I’ll end up staying there overnight and won’t be able to send my congratulations.

So here are some flowers from me! 🌸

I am lucky indeed, to have part of so many events and fairs and most of all, for free. Basically this is one of the things the municipality does for people and it is needed as well. I love it.

Thank you for the flowers and the wishes, it's a nice gesture not many do 😃

I hope you're still alive and well and the crocodiles 🐊 on the island has been fed before you arrived on the island 😆

I’ve lost weight — I’m basically skin and bones now. A crocodile would choke on me! 😄

In Russia, if you don’t congratulate women on this day, you’ll be cursed for the whole year… and deprived of sex! 😄

I don’t know that yet — that’s why I congratulate everyone I know first thing in the morning! 🤣

oh you starting with flower fairs already! a little early here, not much stuff preparing for women day either

it has not becoming kinda consumeristic and lost the real meaning, everyone wants just to appear well doing gifting a flower then forgetting the rest of the year

It's never too early, trust me. I'm surprised they didn't start in your part of the world. Italy has many fairs in general but it seems those are structured in a different way.

Yes, it has been consumerized over the years, but it's still a nice occasion.

Thanks for the reminder about Women's Day! My mother owned a florist business, so this brings back memories.

As for women having no right to anything and kept in the house and dominated, do you still see this happening in spite of all the legal changes affected to empower women to own and do what they choose?

Have you seen what's going on in Muslim countries? Afghanistan makes the top of the list but other countries are close too.

Yes, the cavalcade of colors is one of the reasons I like this event so much. After the grey winter, a day like this really looks like spring. Yesterday we had a lovely and quite hot sunny day bit in other years there was still snow.

Thank you for the nice comment Jesus. Have a lovely weekend!

Interesting how did they got such juicy blue and pink-blue colors for roses. Is it additionally added colors or what? 🤔

That's a million dollar question. I know orchids are genetically manipulated to get some unnatural colors but this? It's either the same or it's something added when they are grown already. Either way, I don't like it, it looks kitschy and it's cruelty for the flowers. Trust me, no one seemed to be interested in buying those. I feel sorry for the flowers honestly.

Maybe in your country but not here. It's -3°C outside at the time of writing. All these flowers were grown in greenhouses or imported from God knows where.

So much variety and color! I love tulips, but if someone gives me a gingerbread heart, I like that too, or maybe something else. Everything is beautiful, and the dog knows it! Happy Women's Day!🤗
